Shore power/generator

Fellow RVers.
Camping over the last 4 days we stayed in a fairly rustic campground. It had "intermittent" generator provided power. And when I say intermittent, I mean you never really knew when it was coming on even though there were posted time periods. We had the generator running for several hours ignoring the site provided power times, and eventually found that the shore power wasn't providing any electricity to our motorhome. I thought at first there was an issue with the campground provided generator power. However, after getting home I found the shore power didn't work here either. It appears that there is a problem with something in my rig. HELP. Any ideas?

More info...when u say no shore power what exactly is not working?..like u have a shore connection and cant run the micro? (No 120v inside) or your converter isnt making 12v??

Sorry, I didn't do a very good job with my first post. When I plug in the shore power, nothing happens. No micro, no boost in the level of lights, no battery charging. Normally when I plug in the shore power, there is the sound of the power going into the transfer switch with a mild bang. I have a Lyght Power Systems LPT 50CA transfer switch. The generator works fine though. I don't know if there is a circuit breaker that locks out the shore power from the generator power so there isn't a conflict. Inside the Lyght Power Systems box are two switches, but I can't determine how to reset them. Hoping I didn't really kill something.

Well I dont know specifically about your setup, but if the genny is providing power and everything is fine wirh that, then your converter is fine....I would look at the transfer switch. ...sounds like thats your bottle neck. ..or a breaker?..the genny is just an alternate source of 110....so if it works then your issue is shore power getting in the system

I agree with checkin the transfer switch! If you don't use a surge guard protector, you are askin for trouble! I plugged into a pole without one and it had an open nuetral and fried my transfer switch, knocked out 3 large tv's,microwave and element for red fridge... Now I won't hook up without one!

Sounds like your contacts are stuck in the generator position. That transfer switch is energized when the generator is powered up, and de-energized to shore power when the generator is turned off.

Slap the front of the transfer switch box with an open hand, and see if it drops out.
