slide topper

We had an issue last fall with 75 mph winds during a huge storm. The main slideout topper on our 08 Georgetown 350 TS was bellowing up and unrolling from the tube that it should have been wound around. Pulled the slide in and went back to bed.

Since then the slide will go out in a jerky movement, then actually stop. It then pushes the bottom out a bit more and gets moving again. I had the DW work the slide while I watched outside. Sure enough the the topper would jam up and stop unwinding, then with a little extra torque from the pistons it clunks and gets moving again.

Today, getting unit ready, reinstall all batteries, check all fluid levels, engine, tranny, generator. tire air pressure, operation of slides, and jacks. Furnace and AC units Aok. I watched the slides outside and the main one, problem one, the tube that the material is wound on, is bouncing up and down, doing an elliptical rotation, with a loud clunking and rattling noise.

Any thoughts about what is phazubeed in the winding drives?

It's just a spring in the tube, did you bend the tube when this happened last year? That's all I can think of, if the tube is bent at all it could cause that spring to get caught.
