Stairs, meet curb. Curb, meet stairs.

So how do you guys handle when you pull up and there is a curb? If I open the door the stairs bottom out and don't open fully. I'm afraid of breaking them. Only solution thus far has been to raise the coach using levelers or to park facing the wrong way so the door faces the street. Any other options?

Stairs are resistant controlled. They stop when they got something. I usually use the levelers.

When I park my trailer in front of my house the gutter is real low compared to the center of the street. I just roll the right wheels up onto a pair of 2X10's and the stairs are just fine. Floor is level too. I can park there for as long as it takes to load and unload, even longer as long as I don't exceed 72 hours.

If I had levelers I'd just use them.

The steps will not be harmed if an obstruction is in the way and keep the steps from fully extending. There is a maximum preset current draw and that is actually what shuts them down when either fully extended or fully retracted. It is the same function either way. Now, it may be a pain if they don't extend far enough to aid in exiting/entering, but the steps will not be affected.

Don't be jacking up your stabilizers to fix the stair problem. Stabilizers are not made to do that and it'll stress them out.

The Leveler's on most MH's are strong enough to lift the coach completely off the ground. Most tire/repair shops I know use them for replacing tires and brakes.

DEFINITELY not the case of the "scissor jacks" used for stabilizers on TT's.

Just make sure the stairs are in before moving. Neighbor forgot and backed them right into a retaining wall. They have a new set now [emoji3]

I stand corrected,,,,I didn't know it was a MH we're talking about. Duhhh on my part. My mindset was scissor stabilizers.

I pull up so stairs are in driveway or park far enough away from curb that steps will extend. May not hurt stairs when they are not fully extended but shortens the step platform portion making it difficult to us stairs if they are not fully extended.

Thanks everyone! Great feedback. I'll be less paranoid about the steps now. Thank you!

I put a switch that lock the steps in , as when we go to border and they want to come on board the steps will not come out .
We use a ferry ever now then me comes in handy in tight places.

Spooked after old steps broke 3 times. Replaced under recall but will jack MH up or reverse park

DH has a similar set up for ours. We can be "full auto" as I think of it, locked in or locked out.

I like locking the steps in with a switch. Does anybody have a drawing/description of where they cut-in the line and where they installed the switch?

Remove panel and cut power wire and put switch in between just to control power to that switch. So with steps in shut power off and it stays in, turn switch
On and the switch works as normal , and every function of the step switch is the same.

Thanks Donlock, sounds simple enough if there is good access behind the panel.

I found power wire and had enough wire to run switch to by the inside door handle.

On my coach, when the step hit the curb, it stops. When I close the door, it retracts back. It happened a number of times and it never gave me any problem... at least, not yet.
