Step won't go all the way in or out, Noise

My steps won't go all the way up or down and make a noise while doing so... I looked at previous forums on this... lubed it up, still didn't work.

Any thoughts on what the problem is and/or how to fix it?

Steps are bad.
How old is your Georgetown?
Have you contacted your dealer or Forest River yet?

Gear is stripped in the motor. Just had same problem with the same steps. Replaced motor which has the gear with it! Works great now!

My steps go in and out ok but the motor sounds like it cycles four or five extra times when they go out. This started after I washed the steps with a hose in preparation for painting them. It seems like spraying under the steps with a hose should not be an issue since they are exposed to weather anyway. Replacement motor and controller are pretty pricey and I don't know which is the problem. Any thoughts?

The motor is a window motor out of a Taurus Ford you can get it at a local auto parts store about $40

I have an extra motor if you need one. I have the 3 step lippert type.
PM me and I'll send it to you if they are a match and this is the problem.

MarkAnne, I had the same problem a couple of years ago with the step motor making 4 or 5 knocking sounds when it operated. A replacement motor solved the problem. Here's some information I posted about it back then. Hope it helps:

The motor used for the Lippert steps on the Georgetown is a Ford and Lincoln power window motor. They are available from Car Quest, Advance Auto Parts, O'Reilly, etc. for about $50. You will need to cut and reuse the electrical connector off the old Lippert step motor, as it is different from the Ford connector.

Two manufacturers available:
ACI part # 83694
Cardone part # 42-309

2012 Georgetown...My Step Broke the third outing. Replaced under warranty. Just got back from a 3800 mile vacation and step broke again (on the road). This time I did the modification myself in camp. Drilled out the ball pin and replaced it with a new SS Bolt. Works better than new! I just may call it "FIXED".

I can't remember the year but pull the motor and take it to your local auto parts store and they can match it. There are other Ford cars that it fits.

Thanks Iggy... Mine is the motor. The recall seems to be for the bolts and moon gear

I received the attached recall notification today. Looks like there is no remedy yet. Just supposed to be patient. Hopefully no one gets injured or killed while we wait for a remedy
