There is a switch that you have to turn on, with our 378XL its right by the door and by the master cutoff switch. There are 3 rocker switches in a row, 1 for the steps, 1 for the outside lights, and 1 for the inside floor lights. Hope this helps.

Sadly it will not stay out even after flipping the switch either way.

Before Lippert replaced my steps, the orginal steps would do whatever they wanted, I would have to crawl under the steps and unplug the motor to get them to stay out, so far, my new steps have worked like they are supposed to!!

Chance it may be wired wrong, or even not wired.
This how mine works:
  1. Open Door
  2. Ignition must be OFF
  3. Flip stair switch
  4. Close door and see if step stays out

FWIW the screen door by itself should operate the stairs.

If this doesn't work, get it checked out under warranty.

Steps won't stay down.

I have tried all of the proper steps and it still will not stay out. It worked before. I wish I knew what to check.

I doubt it's under warranty because it's a 2014.

Here is instruction/troubleshooting manual for Lippert steps....if after all test completed and still not operating properly, you might have to change the control module...

Based on that schematic I would check the switch connections first. Could be a bad switch. That fact that it has worked in the past means something has either disconnected or failed.

If you have Lippert steps this doesn't apply. If Kwikee steps the step switch needs to be on for steps to stay out. The battery control center provides a 12 volt input through the switch that is required. The 5 amp fuse in the center may be blown. The switch light will illuminate if the fuse is ok but the light has its own ground and the wire from the switch to the steps connector could be open. Worth a check. If Lippert steps the switch is off for the steps to stay out and therefore no 12 volts is not an issue.
