There is a switch that you have to turn on, with our 378XL its right by the door and by the master cutoff switch. There are 3 rocker switches in a row, 1 for the steps, 1 for the outside lights, and 1 for the inside floor lights. Hope this helps.
Before Lippert replaced my steps, the orginal steps would do whatever they wanted, I would have to crawl under the steps and unplug the motor to get them to stay out, so far, my new steps have worked like they are supposed to!!

Here is instruction/troubleshooting manual for Lippert steps....if after all test completed and still not operating properly, you might have to change the control module...
Based on that schematic I would check the switch connections first. Could be a bad switch. That fact that it has worked in the past means something has either disconnected or failed.
I have tried all of the proper steps and it still will not stay out. It worked before. I wish I knew what to check.
I doubt it's under warranty because it's a 2014.
If you have Lippert steps this doesn't apply. If Kwikee steps the step switch needs to be on for steps to stay out. The battery control center provides a 12 volt input through the switch that is required. The 5 amp fuse in the center may be blown. The switch light will illuminate if the fuse is ok but the light has its own ground and the wire from the switch to the steps connector could be open. Worth a check. If Lippert steps the switch is off for the steps to stay out and therefore no 12 volts is not an issue.
I put a switch in the wireing to the door mag switch to keep steps in or out as we go on ferries and borders and can not have them coming in and out, had this on my other
Motorhome to. It works for us.

Thanks so much this was a perfect 5 minute bandaid. I hope that I can get the original switch fixed, but this will work great until I do. I just have to remember to check my stairs before I take off.
I noticed that the RV shop replaced the magnetic door switch when replacing Lippert steps with Kwikee. Could be that one calls for normally open and the other needs normally closed. Will be asking.

For those having trouble with a Lippert automatic entry step be advised that there is a safety recall for Lippert steps. Not sure what rigs it may pertain to but mine is a 2012 Coachmen Class A and it has been recalled. Check with your dealer for verification.
Hey I tried all the suggestions none worked I put a rocker switch on the red wire ran switch by inside steps turn switch off when u get to spot and turn back on when u leave switch by door is supposed to this but it didn't so put new one in works fine
Two things that have happened to mine are that the magnet that senses the door is closed had fallen off. I stole a magnet off our fridge, busted it open, got the magnet out and glued it to the door, one problem solved, #2 they ran the magnet wire through a hole in the side of the steps with no grommet and the wire was too short so it rubbed through the insulation and would run the steps in and out while you were driving. Be very careful putting your hands in the step mechanism, shut off the power before working in there, that scissor mechanism looks like it could bust bones and tear fingers off.

Where is that 5 amp fuse? The switch is not illuminated. And I can't figure out where the switch is.

The fuse is located inside the battery control center (BTC), a rectangular black box. The cover is removable and inside are several fuses that control various items. I don't know what model Georgetown you have. My Georgetown 378 BTC is located under the step well and accessed by removing the steps inside my unit. Here is the drawing that might help you.
