Surge Protectors

Greetings Rv buddies! Looking to finally get a portable surge protector before the season hits. I know everyone swears by the Surge Guard 120/240V 50A model. On average I see it going for around $349.99. However, Tweety's has Progressive Industries model 55-2757/N19-0447, 120V 50A RV Surge Protector for $99.99! I'm not a mechanical genius (or any other kind for that matter!), but the only difference I can tell is the SG is 1750 joules of protection vs.1650 for the PI model, plus it doesn't look as nice. Has anyone used the PI surge protector?

I was just told in another thread that this comparison chart has some errors in it. I could verify that the one error that was reported was itself in error, and the chart was correct on that issue.

At any rate, this might help you in making a decision.

My impression is that everyone swears by the Progressive Industries units (lifetime warranty and Made In USA).

You need to compare apples to apples. Progressive Industries makes good surge protectors, but you're comparing their "spike protector" with the other companies surge protector.

BTW, the model numbers you quoted are Tweety's numbers. That's the PI SSP-50. Look at the EMS units for more protection.

Not to drag this out, but the Part Numbers that I listed are the Progressive Industries numbers for their Surge Protectors.

Confused. You didn't give any part numbers in this thread.

Sorry. There are two active Surge Protector Threads going on, and that comment was in reference to the other Thread.

RodeoGeorge, Thanks for the link and straightening me out on the surge protector vs. spike. Looks like I'll order the PI model and at $257 seems a pretty good price.
