Texas question

We have been spending the last two enters in Florida. Now that we have done it and got the Tshirts. We are thinking about send g next winter in Texas. Anybody has suggestions for camp ground in south Texas? And is the weather in south Texas fairly comparable with Florida during the winter months?

Most of Southern Texas is rife with Winter Texan campgrounds and RV parks. there are literally hundreds if not thousands of RV parks in that region.
Depending on your focus (birding vs fishing) you can either stay closer to the "valley" (Rio Grande Valley) or the coast (Port Isabel, Brownsville, Etc).
February is the worst winter month in Texas, but Spring break brings warmer weather and the Spring Breakers to the beach.
Further up the coast like Kingville, and Corpus is nice too.
Lots of golf courses down there, and lots of malls.
lots of traffic, too.
Spend a month near Harlingen, and spend perhaps a week of that month researching each area to find what you like. Lake Falcon, Donna, to the south west, and the beach and south Padre Island/Port Isabel to the south east.
Port Mansfield is less populated, to some extent, and in my opinion has better access to deep sea fishing.
I have stayed at Breeze Lake Campground in Brownsville, which has both long term permanent rigs, and monthly/weekly/daily slips. Close to Airport, Walmart, and can go in either direction for the beach or Padre Island.

We are in FL this year but have spent many winters in south TX. We have spent more time around Mc Allen / Alamo area. We have found that a little further from the coast it is not as windy. Regarding the weather it depends on the year last year TX had more rain so we came to FL this year and I'm sitting inside doing this and looking out at the rain. TX is a large state we have enjoyed traveling different areas on our way home. Such as the coast, Big Bend Park or hill country then back on the Natchez Trace Parkway to Nashville. This year we are stoping at the FMCA rally in Perry GA from there we visit family in OH before returning to ON

We live just about smack dab in the middle of Texas, in Lampasas. It's a large state. Anytime we go out of state it takes minimum of 4-6 hours or more depending on stops, shopping, etc. There is nice little park in Lampsas, Boones RV Park. We are about 50 minutes from Austin, 1 1/2 hour from San Antonio, and Waco, little less than 3 hours from Dallas/FW areas.

We love the Austin area. It is between Dallas, San Antonio and Houston areas. The further southwest you go the less rain you get. Almost always a burn ban in much of the state and water restrictions. Easily over 100 days with 100+ Temps with high humidity. Southeast towards the coast can be hot as well, but rain from the Gulf of Mexico will come up. We lived in Houston for 5 years. Our kids both go to UTSA in San Antonio. Lots of culture and a few pretty good parks. I always have to call ahead to a the ones we go to during winter months due to the snow birds. North Texas is pretty flat. You can see a thunder storm comin' and hour before it get's there. East Texas has piney woods areas and lots of lakes. West Texas pretty much desert. However some really nice state parks Balmorhea State park then the Fort Davis Mountains. Those areas are petty remote.

Texas is loaded Desert, Beach, Woods, Plains, Cities, etc. I'm a city person, my wife wants the landscapes.

Thanks everybody. Mikel68 wow that's lot of info, really appreciate it. So far we narrowed it down to mustang Island but mostly to Bentson palms outside mission. The later looks like a really nice place and the reviews are excellent. The only worried some people told me not to go to close from the border for security reasons. Anybody got input.
