The Mattress from Hell
Hi All:
I'm new to the forum group. I read through a lot of your posts before signing up and it was evident that if you own a Forest River product you had to be part of this group. It's first rate.
I just took delivery on a 2011 Georgetown 337. Haven't had a chance to wring it out yet, but one thing I know for sure -- the mattress is not going to cut it. It's like laying on a slab of concrete.
I'm sure there are companies out there who can provide something better, but I't like to cut down the research time if possible. Has anyone out there found a solution to the solid rock mattress problem. If so I could sure use some help. I'd sure hate to see the first outing in this great coach ruined by a string of sleepless nights.
By the way, the mattress is advertised as a King size (72"x75" with radius corners on the foot end) i.e. not quite a king and not quite a queen.
Thanks in advance,
Ken

I put one of these on it. Cheap solution but its really comfy. I was super impressed at how nice it is. I sleep great on it now.
The cover is a bit too big because, like you said, the mattress is a bit undersized. So I just tuck it in around the bottom and it works fine.
Also this thing is kind of a pain to get the foam out of to wash it. So instead I leave it on the mattress for the whole season. I put a normal mattress pad over it. I carry two normal mattress pads so I can swap them and wash them whenever I feel the need.

thanks for your quick reply. Sounds like you found a solution, but unless I missed it, you didn't include what it was

Sorry I forgot to hit PASTE. Somebody walked in here and said, "Could you download this MP3 for me and put it on my ipod?" threw my whole groove off.

Kohls or walmart have some really nice memory foam topper that work wonders and are fairly cheap but well worth the money

Mattresses are a personal thing so you'll need to experiment on your own, but I had the same complaints with ours. Before dropping big bucks on a sleep number mattress I tried a mid-grade memory foam topper from target and a pillow top mattress pad. It's a good combination and I dont see any reason to change our mattress now.

2" memory foam from Kohl's did the trick for us. They were 50% off at the store last month and we had an additional 30% off coupon for a total 65% off. Ours is an 80"x60" but they also had smaller sizes.

We donated it to charity after a year. Kept the topper. And installed a Sleep number mattress. Made all the difference.

We cut our bed slab down to queen size. Makes a lot more room in the bedroom...then went to Sleepers Mattress factory and they have a mattress designed for rv's...it is a high quality unit that is very very good without adding any foam on top. The cost was in the $400 range.

Another one for the foam topper. I don't remember where we got ours, but it's a 3" foam topper and works great for us. But as Ron said, it's a personal thing, and different for everyone. Your results may vary.

Does anyone find the memory foam is hot, and doesn't 'breathe'?
Im happy with our mattress, but was looking at getting a feather bed topper.

We don't find it hot. Last week's 10-day trip had one night in the upper 70's and the rest between 62-72 at night. It was comfy.
We're in a hybrid, though, and sleep with the tent ends open all or part of the way as we like the fresh air. You'll find it different in a TT.

I havent had any problem with it getting to hot but the mattress pad I use over the top of it is a pretty thick cotton pillowtop style.

This is why I was thinking of just getting a feather topper. If I got the memory foam, I would have to buy a thick cotton cover also, which would start getting pricey.
There are other natural filled toppers out there, but they are very expensive

All of the "king" size topper pads are lot's larger then the size of the mattress. Even the queens are too long. Has anyone tried to cut one down to the actual size of their mattress? The last time I tried to cut down a foam pad to fit into a skylight it came out pretty ugly - couldn't get a clean smooth edge

LABZY,
We bought the memory foam topper from Costco. After three hours of sweating we took it off.
Each to his own....that's why the make so many different types and firmness ratings.
