To Change the Oil or Not to Change the Oil
Okay Gang,
We just took delivery of a New (left over) 2014 Georgetown 328 TSF. Delivery miles was 400 and we have since run the odometer up to 750 miles. Our concern is the time that it has been sitting on the dealers lot and because of this should we change the oil before we head to Myrtle Beach (1600 mile round trip).
We believe it's been sitting at the dealer since February or March of 2014. Yes, almost 18 months. I'm anal about maintenance and will be using a Motorcraft Filter along with Motorcraft 5w-20 Synthetic Blend (6 quarts). We do have 2 additional short trips scheduled after or Myrtle Beach vacation.
So, should I change the oil before our trip or before we put her away for a long winters nap..
Thanks everyone..

The oil has probably been in there two years or longer. Doubt it would make much difference either way but I would change it.

You probably have a lot of condensation build up in the motor. I wouldn't drive anywhere without an oil change. Cheap insurance!

Condensation is my main concern. I think everyone is correct, change it for piece of mind if nothing else.
Does anyone know how many quarts.. Our Sunseeker (E450) with the V10 took 6 quarts.. Even though this V10 is 3 valves per cylinder, I'm still thinking 6 quarts.
Thanks again everyone...

In our 2014 Georgetown 328TS (on a 2013 Ford F53 chassis) the owners manual calls for 7 quarts, which is what it takes when I change mine.

When I took delivery of my 2011 F250 diesel late in 2012, it had been on the lot about 14 months. Ford has a website (my ford.com) where I can log in and see the maintenance log for my truck. After registering and viewing the maintenance history, I consulted the maintenance requirements established by Ford, wherein they state "...the oil in your 6.7 diesel must be changed as directed by the onboard computer, or 1 year whichever is sooner." So, I shot my salesman an email referencing chapter and verse, and asking him if the oil should be changed right away due to age. In a few minutes, my cell phone rings, and the sales guy says "...no worries, just change it when the computer says to." So, then I asked him if he wouldn't mind responding to my email with that instruction. He said sure, but I didn't hear from him for two days, but then got an email asking me to bring the truck in for a free oil change. Interesting yes? Those standards should work both ways. So far, the truck has been a good one.

I agree with all the above. When I buy a used vehicle I have all the critical fluids changed. Same should apply to a new vehicle when the storage date is long.

That engine is not even broken in, I would definitely NOT put a synthetic oil in it until after the engine has at least 5,000 miles on it. Put whatever the engine mfgr says in it until after it's broken in!

They may be factory run for break in. Smokey Yunick told me what I posted in 1978 on my new 78 Chevy Heavy Half. IMO, he was GOD of IC engines!

All 5 20 oils are semi synthetic .That is the only way they can get the viscosity down to the 5 20 rating that is required by the engine manufacturer. The engines of today have much tighter tolerances . Many of the cars today come with full synthetic oil right from the factory . Not changing to synthetic oils until the engine is broken in went out many long years ago.

First off, "All 5 20 oils are semi synthetic." is pure bunk, there was 5-20, 10-30,etc LONG before synthetics we even dreamed about. I worked at a station in 1955 that had multi weight oil. In 1974 Mobil 1™ synthetic engine oil was commercially introduced in the USA — setting new standards in lubrication technology.
Secondly, IF you read my post, I said "Put whatever the engine mfgr says in it until after it's broken in!".

I diffidently would change the oil. Synthetic is the way to go now days in the newer engines. Most new cars and trucks now come with the Synthetic oils. Been using in all my new trucks since 2008. Later RJD

Change it! My Vette has Mobil 1 synthetic oil from the factory. It's computer keeps track of my mileage automatically and let's me know when the oil needs to be changed. I retired and last year no longer drive it every day. But the computer readout said the oil needed to be changed,(with very little mileage since the last oil change). I called Mobil 1 for clarification. They told me the additives in the oil break down not only with heat from driving, but as a result of time as well. And even with little actual mileage driven it should be changed at least once a year. Cheap insurance !!

5000 miles or once a year, running or sitting, which ever comes first.
Synthetic oil from the getgo. They come from the factory with synthetic.

Not on point with the Oil change but make sure you take your unit to get a wheel alignment within the first 6 months of purchase and before any long trip. FR will reimburse you for the cost. Could potentially save you cost of new tires getting prematurely worn out.
