Toad Jeep Liberty

Have a 2011 378, and with all the bugs out, love it. Bought a 2010 Liberty Limited, weight right at 4400 lbs. Pulls nicely with Blue Ox and ReadyBrute tow bar, and I ran separate brake and turn signal wires to rear of Jeep from camper. You can tell it's back there (vs the 2003 CRV), but needed real 4x4 and seating for 5. Push button to put transfer care in neutral, transmission in park, key out. No steering wheel lock, and no electrical load on the battery.
Compass and Patriot are smaller, with 4x4, but not sure about neutral and a transfer case, or if they are Trail Rated.

We tow a Jeep Wrangler 4X4. They are pretty light and have no restrictions. Be careful what you choose as most vehicles will tow with restrictions...some minor others not so much. Some have to idled or trans pumps installed. Others will have speed or mileage restrictions.

Go to motorhome magazine for the list of towable cars and SUV's for the year you want.

Jeeps, Jeeps, and Jeeps. Did I say Jeeps?

We have a 2005 Liberty Renegade 4X, a 1989 Wrangler, and a 1984 CJ.

All of them tow like they ain't even there, except for about a half mpg.

Depends on where we're going, or what we're doing, but the darn little Liberty can do most of what the big guns can!

Please be aware that the 2012 Ford Fusion & Escape have been removed from the approved FMCA list of approved 4 down towing vehicles.

I finally have a few pictures of my FIAT Dinghy behind my Georgetown.
I unstalled the vehicle plate myself and I used a Roadmaster All Terrain Sterling which is over kill for the 2,363 lb car.
I used a 6" drop and wired my car myself also.
Any questions?

You just say that because thats what Fords are used to...

I kid, I kid...

I would honestly love to tug around a little Fiat 500 Abarth or a Jeep Wrangler. Both are lightweight and would be a blast depending on where you were going. Plus like Iggy said, lighter weights=bigger fuel savings.

I wonder if the new Dart with the turbo will be able to tow 4 flat...

That might be a fun little town runner, too...

2012 Dodge Dart basic curb weight is 3211 lb which is nice.
Looks like a fun car to drive also.
Seems that the manufacturers are heading to more smaller energy efficient cars to drive locally. Like it.

This little beast is based off the Alfa Romeo Giulietta. Very nice European car. The Alfa itself is on its way back to the states sometime in the near future due to the Dodge/Fiat alliance. Will be interesting! All the new car engines are Fiat/Alfa designs and get great power with good fuel efficiency. Tigershark, Tigershark Multiair 2, and Turbo Multiair. All getting over 160hp and 36-41 hwy mileage. Not too bad and should make good, fun toads on larger platforms.

On a different note, this would have been an interesting car to have seen make the market.

Was going to be the 2010 Dodge Hornet, had the market not fallen apart...

Don't think I would have owned one, but it sure is a good looking mini car.

towing behind a Georgetown

I have a 2004/5 Georgetown 375. I tow a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Other than gas mileage you don't know it's there. You will find that Jeeps with a quadratic II transmission need just a push of a button which disconnects the transfer case. The jeep then tows all wheels down, in park and locked. Just drive and forget it's there. Don't forget to get a braking system such as "even brake" or "brake buddy". It's the law in all states and all provinces in Canada. Don't be fooled by people who think you can tow something over 2000 lbs (about 1000 kg).

That's why I don't go to Canada nor California.
When a 26,000 lb vehicle is pulling a 2,363 lb toad it can stop with no problem. I see little cars pulling boats and trailers that weigh more and they don't need brakes.

Now if I had a smaller Classs C and pulling a 5,000lb Jeep you bet I want toad brakes.

It is all in relation to the size of the motorhome and the size of the toad.
Many places in Canada say that all you need to prove is that you can stop within a specified distance to not need aux brakes in the toad.

Now in conclusion. If I wa sgoing down hill at 65-70 MPH and I lose control those aux brakes in the toad is useless because it will be a big wreck and it wouldn't be because the toad didn't have brakes or not.

Get my point?
