Love the license plate. We just got a Rubicon Unlimited and will be getting the towing hardware soon. Do you use supplemental brakes? Ours is ~4,300 lbs. curve weight and seems pretty light to need the brake kit.

Al......

We all can TRY to be careful out there, but what about the other guy??????

There's nasty fines if the authorities see things their way, not to mention what your insurance might say if you're caught without supplemental braking.

we have the Blue Ox towing system and InvisiBrake, super easy to hook up, I generally do the hook up by myself it takes me less the 5 minutes. The other day my DH was going to pick up the Georgetown, he had my Jeep, he commented that this would be the first time that he was doing the set up he hoped he would do it right.

Most states require supplemental braking by law. Each state varies a little on the minimum weight. Most starting at 3000lbs. I had it installed before my first tow as we crossed 5 state lines when we purchased and picked up coach. Want to pull legal but also as a safety thing. Not to mention with the brake system you have zero load applied to the coach. So preserves coaches brakes longer.

I used to tow a Toyota Yaris which weighed about 2100 pounds. It was under the brake requirements limit for most states, and it was so light and aerodynamic that there was little noticeable effect when towing it behind the Georgetown.

Last October I purchased a Jeep Wrangler. It weighs about twice as much as the Yaris, and has the aerodynamics of a brick. There is a noticeable difference towing. Both the acceleration and braking are different. I would not tow a Jeep Wrangler without a braking system.

For the Jeep Wrangler I installed a Blue Ox baseplate and used an NSA Ready Brute Elite tow bar which has a built in surge brake. It is easy to hook up, and much less expensive than a separate tow bar and brake device. Since the surge brake is built into the tow bar, there is just a simple mechanical cable link that connects to the Jeep's brake pedal. Unlike the Brake Buddy and similar products that are installed each time in front of the driver's seat, connecting the surge brake cable takes only a few seconds. It is also nice that there is no brake device to store someplace when not towing.

A nice feature of the Wrangler is that it is constructed using a traditional body on frame design. The box frame is hollow with side drain holes allowing the tail light tow wiring to be easily installed inside the frame from the front of the Jeep to the tail lights. It also provides added protection for the wiring, especially when driving off road.

Learn something new every day. Didn't know it was required by law. I'll have to figure out the best setup.

I also have the road master invisibrake with the blue ox baseplate and towing bars. Very easy hookup; takes a minute or two. The jeep is such an easy setup, too; transfer case in neutral, tranny in park, hook up, and off you go.

You know it's there, on the hills, but the coach does fine with it. I also have two kayaks on the roof of the jeep and 4 bikes on the back. With the soft top, the jeep comes in loaded with a full tank of gas at 5050lbs. I'm at the wall for the hitch receiver on the coach, but with no tongue weight it should be fine.

^ Agree. The Jeep Wrangler not only tows well, but it is a lot more fun to drive than just about anything else on (or off) the road. The Toyota Yaris was a great little toad, but there were just too many times we wanted to go someplace in a national park or BLM area only to see a sign that said "unimproved road - high clearance vehicle required". The Jeep solved that problem!

Towing my second Jeep (went from a 2-door to a 4-door). You know it's there on the hills but I wouldn't want anything else once I get to the mountains or the desert. I weigh in right around 4,500 lbs and use a NSA ReadyBrake. Never a problem in three years of use.

If you are planing to purchase a Jeep, consider joining either the Access Fund or Tread Lightly before buying. Both of these organizations are sponsored by Jeep. By becoming a member of either group you also become a Chrysler affiliate customer. This allows you to buy a Jeep at the affiliate price, which is the same deal Chrysler gives to their parts supplier employees. The affiliate price is 1% under invoice price, and is printed at the bottom of the vehicle invoice form along with the Chrysler employee price (which is lower). If you shop around and negotiate hard, you can sometimes do better, but Wrangler are selling well. That's why there are currently no rebates, and few dealer incentives.
