We are going to pull a tow dolly for the first time and have a question about speed restrictions. My son drove by a U-Haul lot this morning and noticed they have a speed restriction of 55 MPH. Is that typical of all Dolly's or just U-Haul?
I have a Forest River tow dolly, no mention of any speed limit to use with it. I've had it up to 70 on rare occasion, but typically keep it between 55 and 60. Major issue with a tow dolly, don't back up with it. It's swivel design will complicate matters.
Agree with other posts, no speed restriction that I have ever encountered while using mine. Make sure that you get one with some sort of brake (be it electronic or otherwise)it will help slow down your rig.

I always considered those stickers a "strong suggestion" My Kar Kaddy SS says that in the fine print, but I have never had a problem consistently going faster.
Agree with the comment about supplemental brakes. they make all the difference in the world.

My dolly has surge brakes. Works great. And I have towed at 75mph when in a hurry. 65 all the time. I also have the radial tire upgrade. These tires are bigger and wider than my toads tires.
Make sure it has Radial Tires vs. Bias Ply. My Georgetown has a speed limiter at 75MPH so I'm not sure if the dolly will do more than that or not. Never had an issue.
Towed DW's Rav4 on a Master Tow dolly from Western New York State to Atlanta last summer and had zero problems in the Kentucky and Tennessee mountains. Easily maintained 70 mph.
