Towing Our Golf Cart Behind Our Coach!?

I'm not sure if this is the place to post our question-but! We're heading to Myrtle Beach in September and decided to to take our golf cart instead of our Jeep. The Golf Cart will be on a 5x10 utility trailer with 15" tires. I welcome suggestions or concerns as this is the first time pulling the golf cart behind our Coach. Flat Towed our Jeep many times but not the golf cart.
Thanks

I can't see why it would be a problem. As long as the golf cart is on the trailer and not being flat towed like the Jeep.

I've seem many people towing cars on a trailer especially off road vehicles.

Towing Our Golf Cart Behind Our Coach!?

We towed our golf cart behind a 40' DP on a 5x10 trailer for several years. No problems. We had a trailer hitch on the golf cart which we used to position the utility trailer out of the way or another parking spot.

They'd what I was thinking. We trailer the golf cart to our seasonal site on the trailer. I just didn't know if I need to be concerned about trailer sway. Golf Cart seats even on the trailer.

Thanks.

I assume that your golf cart is electric (Battery) They seem to be heavier in the rear due to the batteries. You may want to back it on the trailer.

We pulled our golf car on a trailer for years to MB before we got the TH with no issues.

I have a few Golf Cart roofs on the roads not sure why.

Just for info you can take your golf cart on the secondary roads (not 4 lanes) in S Carolina within 4 miles of your home base (campground). But they need to be registered with the state DMV and have proper equipment. Check their web site.

Several campgrounds do allow private golf carts in Myrtle Beach but not all of them. Check before you take it. Also bring proof that it has the required amounts of liability insurance. Usually your declarations page of your bill or a letter from your agent stating the golf carts liability amounts will work. Again check ahead.

Yes. It's a 2007 Precedent Electric. Obviously the batteries are under the seat. Interesting point to put the cart on the trailer backwards.

Thanks.

You are correct. We are staying at Ocean Lakes and they do allow privately owned golf carts. $35 permit is cheaper than renting one for the week. Liability insurance of 50k is required. I'll make sure our insurance company bumps it and sends me proof for them.

Thanks.

Put a bungee cord to hold down the front seat; also use one on the windshield (folded down). If you load it backwards it is advised to remove the windshield to keep it from getting blown out.

The seats fold forward on most carts, we never used anything other than to secure the cart to the trailer. On a 5X10 trailer, we drove the cart front tires flush against the front rail. Secured the cart tight against the front rail with a HD ratchet strap from trailer front rail across floorboard to front rail.

You are correct, but with all of the bouncing the cart does on a trailer the seat can come off, I was behind one that did.. Also it is better to put the strap arounnd the front axle instead of across the floor, and put one on the rear same way.

Good stuff. We always use HD Ratchet Straps to hold the cart to the trailer. Sounds like you load your cart facing forward. Do you have any issues with the trailer swaying? We may put our bikes on the trailer as well.

Good point in terms of strapping it down. I always strap around the frame both front and rear of cart.

No sway- no problem. Don't let people scare you. You can monitor the cart with your motorhome camera. Click image for larger version

We stay at Ocean Lakes several times a year.

We do not have sway issues with our small trailer but when you load the cart facing forward you can pick the tongue up with one finger. Not so much when it faces backwards. The old rule of thumb for loading trailers is 60% of the weight should be in front of the axle. So it does depend on the trailer.

We are so looking forward to some time at Ocean Lakes CG. Our daughter got married last month so the last year and a half has been quite hectic and busy. I'll test the cart on the trailer both ways and see which best fits. I'm all about safety.

Thanks
