travel with fresh water in tank

I am going to be dry camping for the first time this weekend. Can I travel with water in fresh water tank? Weight will still be under gross max.

(Unless, of course, you know that there's a filling/dumping station where you're going and don't mind stopping, and possibly waiting in line, to fill it up...personally, I fill up at the house because I know my water is good.)

Depends... on how far I'm going. When I frequent a SP that is 10 mi away yes I fill up at home. If I'm driving an hour and a half away or more, maybe I'll hold 10 gal in the tank. But if I'm getting a full hook up site, then no.

We always travel with a full fresh tank and haven't noticed a mpg penalty. Besides, we love stopping where we want and having plenty of water for toilet, dishes and even a shower.

Usually always leave home with a full tank of fresh water - didn't the last time out. We went to a park that we had never been too before & you guessed it the water was very poor quality. Won't make that mistake this week.

Not a problem. Actually I fill the fresh water tank (on the front) to add weight to the tongue. It helps with sway control. I have two large slides in the back and I find that the extra weight helps. Of course I am still within limits fro gross and tongue weight.

We always fill up before we leave the house... too many times the 'well' water has been poor at State Camp sites. Dogs have fewer issues, too, using city water from home.

Better to have something and not need it, than need something and don't have it. You never know when you might have to make an unexpected boondock stop, maybe overnight or longer, and want a shower. Or change a flat in 95 degree heat and want to shower off before continuing.

I have always carried water.. The wife sometimes needs to use the potty while on the road and I also figure if I were to blow a hose on the rig that after I fix the problem I have water to fill it up again..

We always fill up before the trip. We use softened water so we have no problems with calcium or hardness. We also carry a few 5 gallon jugs for our popup anchors. Wife also likes to bathroom for breaks.

I agree with Jeff on the going for less than 10 miles. We always put in about 2/3 of a tank when travelling and many a time we have been in parks and the water was shut off for one reason or another and were glad we had water in our tank. When doing long distances, it was nice not to have to hook up to water at every stop. Mileage wise, maybe 1/2 gallon per mile, if that. Save yourself some headaches or stress and by all means travel with water in your tanks.

I carry 1/3 tank of fresh water all the time, if going dry camping I fill up. water weighs over 8# gallon, 40 gallons mean you are carrying an extra 320 # of weight.

I have EXCELLENT municipal water where I live so, I fill my fresh water tank before leaving home. I'm surprised at how many RVers travel with empty (or near empty) fresh water tanks.

We fill our 37 gal water tank every trip. It is more convenient to have the water and the weight in the front makes for a more smooth and stable ride.

Always travel with 1/3 to 1/2 tank especially when traveling 95 to Florida. Public restrooms suck.
