I drove 150 miles to Port Aransas Tx yesterday with the fridge on propane without any issues. It's kinda nice to set up the TT knowing there's a cold beer nearby in the fridge. 99 degrees in the shade down here!

Cold
Beer in the frig... don't think so. Ice it down in the cooler.. only way to go.
Travel with the propane on ... turn off propane at the gas pumps or that could get very ugly. It's not a very pretty site to see things catch fire and blow up.

We no longer travel with coolers. With two refrigerators, there is no need. We also travel with our propane on.

Propane on at a gas pump?? No worse than using a cell phone or getting in and out of vehicle. Both are potential sources of explosive static electricity. Especially with the vapor recovery type pumps required in our area, there is nothing that the refrigerator could ignite unless there is a major spill on the ground which could be ignited by many different things. Turning propane off is not the issue. Eliminating sources of ignition is. So turn the refrigerator off if you are concerned.

Come on people, there are (2) sides to most gas pumps. While you are on one side with your engine shut off, pumping gas and someone pulls in the other side, isnt there engine running? Maybe while you are pumping the person on the other side (Starts) their engine too leave. Both big (Ignition) sources! Dont let (OSHA) think about this or we will be pumping GAS one at a time! Youroo!!

Your kidding right????? Up here in Wisconsin from Oct 15- April 15 no one turns their car off while pumping gas because we are in the car trying to stay warm as it is fricking cold!!!! As for the beer in the refrigerator..... I do not drink beer but that would be the last place I would have it while traveling. Bed of truck in a extreme cooler on ice and less foam when opened.... As stated before I travel with propane on and refrigerator /freezer on. Oh an the cell phone igniting anything is crap as it was busted.....

Ran into the "propane cops" going through the tunnel in Baltimore on I95.
I thought the sign prohibiting propane in the tunnels was for the "big guys". Turned out that a single 20 pound bottle on my rented PUP also counted.
AFTER I paid my toll, I was told by the toll taker to pull over to the shoulder and was met by a Trooper who issued me a 100 dollar ticket.
When I complained about the size of the fine, he said I could choose the other one. I said what was that one? He said "Risking a Catastrophe" and that fine was 1000 dollars.
I take the belt around Baltimore now.
The Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnels also have propane restrictions.
They make you pull over and they check that you meet the requirements before you can proceed. Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel -- GAS REGULATIONS

I have a couple of beer mugs that are plastic with "blue ice" type stuff
inside. I put them in the freezer and my beer in the fridge.
Even tho the fridge typically runs almost 40 deg F the freezer is nice and cold.
When I pour one of those 40 deg beers in the freezer mug it gets ice on top
and if I let it sit long enough it will turn slushy.
You can't get much colder than that!

Herk this is BS what are you going to do with a fricking 20 or even 30lb cylinder? I bet 55 gallon drums are still ok to travel with and that is what was used in almost every terrorist attack. This will not stop people untill e everyone that can see the BS calls into their elected puppet and lets them know how they feel.

Chill out!!
If an RV is involved in a bad wreck while in the tunnel, it is much more
likely to spark a fire IF the LP is on.
Puncturing a tank is possible but if the LP tank is ON all that has to happen
is for a hose or pipe or tube anywhere in the RV to get damaged and you
have spewing LP.
Can you imagine a raging smoking fire in a tunnel with 100s of cars all backed
up bumper to bumper and no way to get out??
This is the stuff of nightmares and scary movies!
I get the reasoning.
In Lou's case a warning would have been more neighborly.

I guess I'm one of the few that won't travel with my propane on, unless the trip is over about 5 hours drive. I always turn if off before re-fueling, why take the chance? If it's less than 5 hours drive the fridge stays plenty cold.

Big (Propane powered) delivery trucks for years have been used. Guess what the truck that delivers propane for our area runs on (Propane). I do not think these are traveling (Bombs) any more than a vehicle with (Gas)! Involved in a wreck, anything could happen! Youroo!!

I had a bad wreck in my TT 2 years ago. The trailer rolled over and was completely destroyed. Both 30 lb. LP tanks were on at the time. The front end where they were was completely smashed and at first I could not find the tanks in the debris. When found, they were both intact, hoses ripped off, valves open BUT not leaking and still partly full. Why? Because for several years valves have been required to have an automatic shut off if a rapid flow is detected. LP tanks thus equipped are a hazard only if the tank itself is ruptured, which could happen with the tank on or off.
