Trying to change valve stems on Alcoa Rims
I'm trying to change out my outboard dually valve stems. Went to a local tire shop and agreed on a price. Went to take off the tires and the shop did not have a tool for taking off the chrome caps off the lug nuts. Have a question? Are there just 2 caps that come off and then the center cap comes off so you can get to the wheel lug nuts? I have never had the 22.5 Alcoa rims before.

Are you talking about wheel simulators? If you are, yes should be 2. Opposite from each other. You should have a T handle tool somewhere. fits over the lugs.

I believe so, the center part that sticks out. I purchased my rig used and didn't come with the T handle. Will this work? Lug Nut Cover Pliers — always shiny wheels and rv

Marty this is the tool you need. Is it possible that it is in a drap or some hidden place? That is if you bought the Motrohome new you shoul;d have gotton one.

This might sound dumb but do you remove the crope caps that cover the nuts?
Is the tool in the draw to remove the caps or the nuts?
I never thought much about this but I think we need to know just in case we need a tire replaced.
I always thought they were just decorative caps which can be removed with a screwdriver and underneath was a nut.
My hubcaps are from Kaper II manuf.

Im sorry I cant help you on that. I was thinking maybe my dually truck would be similar to your Georgetowns...It seems that they would be. On my truck I have simulators that cover the wheel. When I take off those 2 lugs where the vale extenders are the whole cover will slide out and you can get the the lugs for the actual wheel. Not sure if this is the same as what you got.

I Have a 2008 Georgetown and there are 3 "dummy" caps to take off/un-screw the false cover to get to the lug nuts.
The tool/ T handle that comes with the MH doesn't work if there on real tight.
When you go to the tire shop they will have the right size socket to take them off.
Do not let them use the air inpack wrench to do this.
Ask them to take them (3) off by hand, outherwise you'll be buying new ones.
.....take it from me.

How can you tell which 3 are the correct ones? Are they different size from the others?

If its similar to mine, the "fake" ones might have a small notch or marking on the side of the lug. if you find 3 that have a mark of some kind, those would be it. I would follow his advise as to not let them use an impact wrench on it. they'll break em....Good luck. just wanted to help if I could.

If you can't see the marks just tap the nuts with the wrench. The fake ones will ring, the marked ones will thud.

I went to harbor freight and bought a 15" cresent wrench, put it straight on the nut and turned the nut counterclockwise. Removed both real nuts, took off cap and this is what you see.
Thanks for all your help, everyone should know HOW their tires come off.

I'm having no luck finding the correct tool. I have called Alcoa this morning and Georgetown with zero luck. If anyone has an extra T-wrench, I would like to purchase it.
