Unhook or Not

While traveling and getting a campground for one night, my question is do you unhook or not. My daughter (RN) feels everyone should unhook always in case a medical emergency or something and you need to use your vehicle. I must admit never thought about it, figuring (Thank God has never happened), that I would call 911, since chances are I am mostly unfamiliar with the immediate area. Pls shared your thoughts on this

We stay hooked up but unplug pigtail from truck since that shouldn't be hooked up when on shore power. Oh and I'm an RN also ( formerly worked ICU including trauma ICU).

If you stay hooked up how do you level / stabilize the RV to insure safe slideout opperation.

Call 911, explain nature of the medical emergency, they or the first responders can arrange any needed transport.

What's the risk with leaving it plugged in both ways? Just asking cuz I did it for the first time ever last night [emoji15]

If the CG loses power then all that power drain can pull from your TV killing your TV battery.

You are talking about overnight and there should be very minimal drain on the camper & tv batteries if the shore power goes out. We never unhook or unplug for overnight stays.

We stay hooked up and level it. The angle to the Toad is no worse than entering/exiting gas stations.

Why unhook?
If you have to go anywhere in an emergency your TOAD / Dingy is what you'd use.

Good point but I was concerned about a 5th wheel.

Since this thread is in the Motorhome/Georgetown sub-forum, I didn't answer the question earlier. Obviously, the toad comments are well placed. We have a 5th wheel and I don't unhook the trailer from the TV on a one-night stop. We always assume one of us can look up the number for 911 in a medical emergency. I suggest calling 911 whether one is hooked up or unhooked.

We always unhook, really not that much work IMO to unhook and set up...30 minutes maybe unless your arriving late and have to leave the next morning early.

Since this is posted in the Georgetown section I think the OP was talking about disconnecting his toad.

If you unhook, a situation will arise that you wish you had left it hooked up

If you leave it hooked up, a situation will arise that you wish you had unhooked it.

I leave mine hooked up and ready to travel ( I don't need to leave key in ignition when towing )

That just about sums it up.
