V-10 Engine Battery Replacement Time

OK I know I start a lot of threads but this one I need help with.

I have been very lucky with my Ford Engine Battery and it is original when the rig was build by Ford which was Oct 2011.
So I figure the battery this Oct it will be 7 years old and probably 8 years old.

So I was looking for my replacement for a Category/Class 65 battery
750 Cold Cranking Amps or 850CCA

Sam's Club Duracell 65 with 850 cca $105 - $20 until June 3rd =$85
Walmart has a 750 cca for $93

Walmart has 3 year replacement and then prorated for 2 more
Sam's Club Duracell warrantee end at 3 years.

So what do you think about the two battery brands?
Should I go and spend $179 for a Ford Interstate replacement?

Your thoughts and opinions are needed.
Thanks

PS Take a look at the prices of the Interstate batteries. WOW!

Our chassis battery failed in Yellowstone on July 4 2016. We left Yellowstone on the 9th and stopped at the first Autozone I could find. Bought a new battery... installed for $109...I think its a Duramax. I had one in the toad that lasted 8 years... the motorhome was built in Aug 2009 so the original Motorcraft battery was almost 7 yrs old.
I used Interstate at work for our truck fleet and was not impressed with their pricing or longevity, but their service was outstanding.

Thanks John for your story. I still haven't decided who's I'll buy.
For the dollar amount at this moment I'm thinking Sam's Club Duracell for the $$ and amps. 3 year replacement warranty is OK for me.
So I figure $105 - $20 = $85 + $7 tax = $92 is reasonable

As you know there has to be a reason for the price difference.
1. It might be because of the seller's replacement cost if it goes out early.
2. Check the weight of the different batteries. I bet the cheaper batteries will weigh less.
3. Even if the cheaper battery last only 4 maybe 5 years your will be out about the same dollars per year, maybe even a little ahead but then again, maybe stranded when it does fail.
Like anything it is a gamble.

I really do not care who makes the battery. I live in Idaho, batteries after 5 years usually do not make it though the winter, and will quit at the worst times when the night before was 10 or 15 below zero. That is why after 5 years, need it or not, I change them out.

I’ve had fair luck with Walmart batteries but then again we live in Wisconsin so we replace batteries every 5 years

Me advtage to Walmart if your traveling and do have the battery die under warranty chances are you will be closer to a Walmart then a costco

My Ford OEM batty failed last fall. I used the battery interconnect to start the engine and get it home. The I pulled it and went to Batteries + for a new Duracell. Work good so far.

I traded my Ford Club Wagon with a V10 after 10 years, never bought a new battery. Maybe have it load tested & see what kind of shape it is in. Some suggest using a hydrometer for a better test.

Just checked Sears.com, they have a Die Hard EP group 65 battery for $132.96 w/exchange plus tax. 3 yr replacement warranty, 880CCA +140 min emergency reserve power in case it fails. Quite a bit more expensive, and maybe not a Die Hard fan, but there are usually Sears auto stores everywhere.

Iggy.....

I can’t remener how much longer you were planning on keeping your Georgetown that you mentioned in another thread.

As long as the price is right, paying for a battery WAY past your expectations is lost money.

My $0.02

I just replaced the original chassis battery in our Sunseeker, which is on an E450 built in June, 2010. It had not failed but I had to use the booster switch after it sat a few months. I knew I wouldn't be stranded if it failed since I had the booster switch (if I hadn't run the coach batteries down while dry camping!), and I carry a booster battery plus jumper cables. I figured delaying replacement made no sense. I'll probably never have to replace it again, so I'd save nothing.

I bought a NAPA battery for about $100. It was probably not the cheapest but the guys in the store have been very helpful (and patient!) with me during my oddball projects.

Over the years I have had the worst luck with Advance Auto and Auto Zone batteries. Just took an Auto Zone back today for replacement it lasted 6 months. Do not have a lot of options where we live.

Thanks All for your help but.....
I'm making an executive decision now and will get my Georgetown battery replaced at my local Ford dealer.
I figure the original Motorcraft battery has lasted over 7 years so why not stay with them. Cost around the same and similar warranty. They are working out a package deal and will also do my brake power flush at the same time.

Consumerreports.org tests and rates car batteries, including Group 65 batteries. Their top rated appears to be an Interstate AGM battery (shows $280).

Iggy

I believe you made the right choice !!!
I replaced my old F-150,,, 2003 battery in 2013 even though it was not yet totally dead,,, I thought 10 years in Michigan was long enough !!!
Then last year I saw a sale on Motorcraft batteries,,, + I found a coupon for $25 !!! So I had the battery in our 2011 EDGE replaced !!!
Again not yet dead !!!
Why wait until some below 0 day to replace the battery in some parking lot or along the side of some road ???

MOTORCRAFT BATTERIES all the way !!!

I did something stupid and left a trouble lite sitting on the top of the original and it melted through the case. Lucky it did not do worse.
Instead of buying the $179 replacement I bought the Autozone Platinum AGM for a couple dollars more.
I will not repeat that stupid mistake and I (knock on wood) will not get stranded.
