vented loops
This may not be an solution, but has anyone tried adapting a Vented anti-siphon loop to eliminate the problem ?
These are normally used in marine application to prevent siphoning water into a boat.

One of the Vented anti-siphon loop manufactures “Jabsco” has an explanation on their site. http://www.jabsco.com/files/itemdoc1391.pdf
