It is a vacuum break. You might find more under other sinks.

No you wont find more unless you have more than one black tank cleanout because that is what it is for, It is a vacuum breaker but also a backflow preventer. You should have a black tank cleanout port on the outside of the unit.

It allows your sink to drain without the use of a vent stack thru your roof.

As stated, it is a vacuum break. It's purpose is to prevent the garden hose attached to the tank flush from sucking the contents from the black tank if it should suddenly have negative pressure which can happen if you lose water pressure.

Woody, a vacuum break to prevent siphoning is what I thought it was and there is a Studder vent at the top of the drain pipe along side (the black ABS)

Just for clarification... were you asking in the original post about the device connected to the blue plumbing lines or something different because you've received some conflicting advice. (and confusing advice for those reading along that don't know the difference)

sorry, I was referring to the black pipe valve. Many people have never seen one.

That is a vacuum break, specifically a Valterra vac break. I replaced the black one in my black tank flush because it leaked and are notorious for that. This clear valterra mtg. break has worked fine for the past two seasons FWIW
