What air compressor for RV tires?

My RV tires have a requirement to inflate to 100psi.

Given the size of the cargo boxes in a Georgetown for carrying space, what model of compressor can best do the job? I would like to be able to inflate/top up tires in a reasonable time. This would be the only requirement for the compressor...NOT for air tools around the house.

Is there a minimum requirement for CFM or gallon size of tanks to consider?

Thanks

I just purchased this little compressor for my RV. Max output is 100 PSI. It is small and light so it meets my needs. Might take a while to fill a tire your size, but would be good for topping off.

Add says it is a DC compressor, but it is actually AC. I plug it into one of my outside 110 outlets.

I have a Viair 450P and use it to top up my 125psi trailer tires (they're commercial trailer tires). I recently had to run a tire up from 108psi and it did it admirably.

It is 12v, which is good for me as I don't travel with a generator or big inverter. The negative for you is that it's powered by 2 alligator clips to clip right onto battery posts. I don't know how that works on motorhomes.

The Viairs are spendy, but fantastic products.

We have one to and yes they are spendy but work great on our 22.5 MH tires and we were at a KOA when a car had a very low tire so we helped them out so they could get to a tire shop.. The other nice thing is it comes in a handy bag and does not take much room

I have a Dewalt 165 PSI 6 gallon air compressor with 30' of air hose, which works off of 120V 10 amp motor and has a adjustable air regulator. The air flow is rated at 2.6 SCFM at 90 PSI. I store this in the front compartment of my Cedar Creek basement.

Do you mind me asking where/how you get power on a motorhome? Are the batteries easily accessible?

Many use this type of compressor, of course this unit does require AC to operate but is great to fill up or top off tires prior to departing a campground with services. Sears also sells the same unit but it is red of course.

I think it would be best if you told us what your source of electricity is.

I purchased this unit from Lowe's for our Beaver, Diesel Pusher and used it ever since. Great little compressor that will fit in a cargo bay or back of our 2500 HD Chevy. Light weight and holds it's 155 lb for days. Tool pressure can also be adjusted for gentle jobs.

I purchased a small Ryobi compressor from Home Depot which uses the lithium ion battery from my portable drill. It actually tops off my Georgetown 33ft tires pretty well and is small and very light and convenient.

Hooked up to Shore Power or run your Generator. Whatever Source you have for AC Voltage. Has to have as a minimum of 150 PSI to inflate Tires to 100 PSI. I had a 125 PSI and it would not inflate My Tires or took very long to do it.

I have the same unit. Never used it so far but it has good reviews and good SCFM compared to most of the same size. The design allows it to stay put and not fall over.......................and right now it's on sale at Lowes for $58 and change! I thought I got a deal before Christmas when I got it for $109!

We bought a little 12v guy on Amazon that works great on 12 volts, but the a guy next to me had one of these from Lowes that looked pretty good. Takes a while to fill a big tire, but it gets the job done and is easy to store.

Since I have a generator and easy access to AC power, in the rear cargo bay, I went with the Sears Craftsman 1.2 Gallon AirBoss™ Oil-Free Air Compressor Here. I can use it for other things around the house as well as in the motor home.

One thing to keep in mind with any compressor is it is better to add air hose than use an extension cord. Extension cords may cause a voltage drop, in both AC and DC powered units, reducing their capability. Adding air hose doesn't have a negative impact...and it is a lot cheaper!

After 2 air compressors from Advance Auto ($60 ea) that both turned out to be junk (stopped working/blew fuse etc.) I gave up and bought an 120 PSI air compressor/jump starter/12V power source/work light combo from West Marine for $120. It works great, is very powerful, and does not need an AC power source to run except for recharging and the charge lasts for a long time. And you can buy a maintenance agreement, then they'll replace it for free if it fails within 2 years, not bad!

Harbor Freight 150psi compressor

I have a 150psi tank compressor from harbour freight. Got it when it was on sale for $99 less a 20% coupon. Works great, not too noisy and fits in one of the smaller cargo bays on my 378. Sure it may not be the quality of some but I don't have to use it very often.....

If you have a Diesel with air brakes, tap onto the air tanks ans cary a 25' hose. No air brakes, get the dc compressor and splice/modify wires to hook to what you have and include enough wire to reach all tires.
Just a suggestion. Hardly anything I own has the original hook ups.

I've got this house brand Kobalt Compressor from Lowes... and all I use it for is my tires. The reason I like this better than the pancake models is that you can stand it up vertically inside your storage bin and it fits perfectly using only about 6" of space.
It is a good quality item that goes for $129 but which also goes on sale for $99 (mine also came with a hose & hookup kit for that price.
