What type of roof mounted satellite dish are you using?

I am planning on buying a in motion satellite dish for some upcoming trips (three teenagers and long drives)and I am wondering if there is a major difference between KHV, Winegard and King Dome? Also since the coach is prepped for satellite, how big of a deal is it to install for a somewhat capable person?

Recommend you down load the installation instructions, then review and only you can decide if it's a project you wish to tackle or not. Sorry can not tell you how easy or hard since the dealer installed mine as part of MH purchase. guess the hardest part is where is the correct place on roof to put it.

I installed my Winegard myself and had no problems what so ever. Mine is not an inmotion unit, but the installation is pretty much the same for both. I'm amazed at how well our unit works. Really don't miss the manual version of searching for a satelite.

We have been using a KVH R6DX for a little over 2 years. Works very well. I recommend. Good system easy setup. Free first box. We subscribe to dish hd service in southeast Pa. Bought our second box on eBay. Considerably cheaper. 400 from dealer, 100 on eBay. Also, great customer service from kvh. Pricy but I feel it was worth the money. 2 teenagers and my wife love the convenience. Takes about 15 mins to reboot the system after u lose power.

I bought an older winegard roadtrip, the older larger one, off craigslist for $150. Installed it myself, here is my thread about the install. It was very easy.

Mine works great and I love love love it. I love being able to stop for lunch, flip the switch and in a few minutes we've got reception. Can watch the news from home while having a snack.

Plus my DirecTV DVR has hundreds of hours of TV stored on it. And it lets me watch all the recorded shows even if I'm camped under the trees where there is no reception.

The only down side is it doesn't work in the rain. If it's sprinkling it'll probably be OK but if it's honestly raining it doesn't work. And here in the Pacific North Wet it rains a lot. I tried carefully cleaning the dome and then applying rain-x, that worked for a few weeks. I haven't tried the $24 per bottle spray stuff that the RV stores sell yet. I bought a can but so far we haven't had good enough weather to apply it properly and from what I've read on the forums it doesn't work unless applied exactly according to the instructions.

If I where going to go buy one at full price I'd buy a wingard Trav'ler since weather doesn't effect them much. However they don't do in-motion.

Not being a full timer, we love not having TV and lousy cell service where we do most of our camping.

Roof mounted unit my be a bad option if the camp grounds you use has a lot of trees. I opted for a winegard carryout and a portable DVD player for the kids on the road.

I opted for the Kvh since it is not so tall. Still keep a carry out dish in board in case we have tree issues.

Have the winegard travler and luv it, cant comment on how well their inmotion one works. Read some of the recent sat cable posts for install difficulty. High def vs standard def and desired level of neatness on cable runs make a big difference on complexity. You will likely need at least one additional hole cut in roof for cables as the prewire is very limited.

We pick sites with southern exposures, carry a compass in cab to check, and load up the dvr for any nights we get a bad site. Could not inagine doing a manual dish setup every night and autoconfig ground unit not available for our sat provider.

We have have an extra satellite dish,(DishTV) and want to take our at home receiver and hook up to our 2006 Georgetown. We purchased a tripod(Winegard). We don't know how to hook up to the MH. Also how do we hook up the dish to our receiver. Do we need splitters,(switches)? We are so confused
