More bad news. We just went up the 400 to Barrie and I thought I saw a sign that they will be closing service centres on that highway as well. Please tell me I am wrong. Old Guys

My trucker friend did say on the weekend, that the Barrie S/C near Molson Park is to be closed. He doesn't know if or when if the King City centers will be renovated. He says he'll be spitting bullets if they close the northbound King City center, because that's a must stop when leaving T.O. for North Bay or Sudbury.

Also, I don't know the status of the info centre/rest area north of Novar on Hwy 11. They had pylons across the entrance (there were a couple of cars disregarding this) & signs stating it was closed. There has been a new building @ the junction of 11 & Fern Glen Rd. I don't know if it's a new info centre or not.

Seven of the S/Cs opened to great fanfare on the part of the gov't .

Hwy 401 service centres back in business - thestar.com

The rest aren't expected to reopen for another 6 months.

Something else to remember @ election time.

On our way to New England, we passed the eastbound SC @ KM599. It's the old "flying saucer" design that disappeared in western Ontario. It's still open. It would appear that there is site preparation ongoing adjacent the current facility. Is it possible that a new center is being built w/o tearing down the current one?

The westbound SC @ KM592 (west of Odessa) is boarded up & the entry ramp is fenced off.

The WB S/C @ Mallorytown (KM 678) has no gas but trailers for restrooms & vending machines.

For those folks that don't mind truck stops we passed the following on our trip between Prescott & Oshawa:

Eastbound @ KM 632 (Joyceville Husky)

Westbound @ KM 579 (Napanee Flying J)

Eastbound @ KM 538 (Belleville Esso)

Westbound @ KM 538 (Belleville Ultramar)

Eastbound @ KM 431 (Bowmanville Fifth Wheel)

BTW, lots of RVs EB on the 401 today.
