Alberta Campers/Quadders Discussion
I wanted to start a thread so us Albertan's could share our stories, experiences or general questions about Alberta camping/quadding. It would be great to see where people like to go quadding and share their experience.
I've been owned a TT for about 5 years, this being my 5th season. I recently bought a 2016 Cherokee Grey Wolf 22RR and have been out 2 times with it, once with a Suzuki King Quad and another time without. I used to have an old 1980 Prowler by Fleetwood, a very good trailer to "learn the ropes" of camping.
Most of my camping areas have been in Banff, Rocky Mountain House, Nordegg. Now with the TH I've been doing a lot in Alder Flats, since it's the closest for me to go quadding. I will be going back out to Alder Flats this weekend for possibly my last trip of the season.
Feel free to post any comments or stories you've experienced in Alberta. Possibly some hidden gem places where you can go quadding/camping!!

Enjoy your last trip of the year....I am just finishing up winterizing my trailer and it's going to storage this weekend...sad day for me.....as for quadding here in Alberta I am only allowed 1 toy at a time so no quad for me yet....I emphasize yet. LOL

Hey Thanks! Ya, I'll be winterizing it soon now too  I'll at least enjoy this last weekend. Hopefully you can get yourself a nice little toy! It enhances the outdoor experience to roam free on one of those units!!

Lots of nice places to camp in the foothills of Alberta.. However some areas have lots taken away from the experience with guys dropping off their TT's before May long weekend, and picking them up after the September long weekend.. Some figure it's their own private summer home.. Some have no respect for the area they are in and leave a huge mess, tear up quad trails, drive down creeks and rivers with quads or trucks, cut down gates, figure everyone wants to hear their stereos blaring all night, figure that the place is their own private target range, etc..
There are also some that enjoy the outdoors and like to ensure that everyone in their group has a similar experience.. That clean up when they are done, so that the next people can enjoy it as well.. But it seems this group is dwindling..
Rant over..
Personally, I live 45 minutes from some great camping in the mountains, and have no desire to camp in the forestry (random camping), but I'd rather campground it.. Better experience in my books...

Ya Glen, there certainly are some people who ruin it for the rest of us... When we "dry" camp we usually do an inspection of our area right before we take off, that's the kind of group that I go camping with. We don't tear up roads or rivers, we respect.
I like to do both types of camping, the back country or "glamping" as some people call it. It all depends on the company. When we do "dry" or "boondocking" it's usually with toys, ATV/UTV's, other times its definitely camping with hook-ups.
It's all fun and games, till someone ruins it

Full hook-ups is what we use when we are on the 5 acres of land that my wife's family has setup as a private campground.
Sure works for me, for most of the summer.

Big Horn dam area, Saunders, Crescent Falls area, Cadomin area. All boondocking areas. Too bad some people decide to try and spoil it for others by leaving garbage, etc.

Alberta Camping
Good day
When we lived in northern Alberta we would camp at Hilliards Bay Provincial Park. At this time we had a Seville 35 foot fifth wheel and we would bring our boat. Great fishing, tubing, wakeboarding, waterskiing.
Campground had lots of trees per site and also there were double sites which was nice if you were camping with friends. Some had power some not. Great little beach and swimming was good. They also have group camping.
Now that we have moved to Stony Plain we will have to start venturing out this spring, summer and fall to find some nice campgrounds near us. We purchased a new 2015 Flagstaff Classic Super Lite 28ft. Looking forward to using it. Right now it is in storage, never used yet. Counting down the days till camping comes rollin around and we can bring it home and stock it.

Oh yes, counting down the days here as well!! I'm in Camrose, AB so I'm going to venture down towards the Red Deer area where I hear there are nice campgrounds that are ATV friendly... I like boondocking at Alder Flats, free firewood there.. I just got a Grey Wolf 22RR Toyhauler so ya, I can't wait!!

Fusionak I think around Hinton area there is camping and you have sand dunes to quad in. I would contact Hinton information place and check it out.

Alberta Camping
Great thread!
We have been camping in Alberta now for 9 years. Upgraded to a new TT this year with all the bells and whistles. We are within 60 minutes of the Rockies and for the most part, stay at either Mount Kidd or Bow Valley Provincial. Have made a few lengthy trips into BC, but man o man, you can't beat the Rockies.
First pic is our first trailer and the second and third pic's are of our new trailer May 5 - 8, 2016 (this past weekend) at Bow Valley.

Congrats on the new Trailer!! That's a nice rig! I love my Grey wolf!
I can't believe how nice it is already in May... I'm hoping they lift the fire ban by May long as that is going to be my first trip out. Probably to Alder Flats for some quadding..
Then Canada Day long weekend at Two jack by Banff.
