Any suggestions on storing RV in USA to avoid winter storms

We are travelling from London Ontario towards the Mexican/US border in January 2017 and are thinking of storing the 5th wheel [28 ft. Flagstaff] say, in Tennessee in the fall and picking it up on our way south.
Any general suggestions or experience doing this?

I say put a Ad in the Classified here on the forum. I know other members from snow state store in the south. From a Insurance perspective and licencing you might need to check Ontario rules, this is more less a Export of a trailer unless you buy in the states, insure and register it there.

I live in the same area and have done this trip at that time of year many times and have always managed to do so without the effects of a winter storm that really does not last too long anyway.

I only go from Il to South Texas for the winter. But many of my friends from the North bring their RV to South Texas very close to where they will be staying and store their RV there. Some even have someone move their unit to the campground so that it is there when they arrive. Just another thought. Storage does not seem to be a problem in most areas outside of the metropolitan areas.

We live in Pennsylvania, take the 5er to Myrtle Beach SC at the end of September and stay for a few weeks. Some of the camp grounds store trailers so we leave it for the winter, come back in March, spend a week or so and bring it home for the summer, Have been doing this for 3 years.

We are headed to that area this year. Don't miss the Grand Canyon or the four corners, states that touch a one point. When we take the trip from Philadelphia PA it we be our farthest trip 2400 miles one way. I can't wait.

It seemed that every time we were ready to drive south for the winter, a major snow storm would hit. I do not relish the thought of towing 10,000# through a blizzard so we now take our trailer far enough south in the fall that it has a very low probability of seeing freezing weather. I then pick it up in January on my way south.

I choose a convenient location to store it and I look for storage facilities near the interstate. I store it near a medium size city because they have a selection of storage facilities and are usually cheaper than major cities. (This last year I stored my trailer near Lake Norman outside Charlotte, NC.) I look for a fenced storage facility that has 24 hr access and either video surveillance or that the owners live onsite. I use a combination of google maps and craigslist to get a list suitable storage locations. (Google maps street view will give you an idea of how visible the storage facility is and the neighborhood.)

TN can and does get freezing temperatures so, winterizing an RV before putting it into winter storage would be prudent (and not really that difficult). I've been to the Deer Run RV Resort in Crossville, TN (western TN) each of the last three Aprils for the East Coast HDT Rally. I always see RVs in storage there. Many private parks have RV storage areas at reasonable rates. Security would be pretty good. I also see RVs stored under equipment and event shelters in fairgrounds. You'd have to go a long way south to avoid a freezing night but not as far to avoid blizzards.

We store our trailer out of province. Your Ontario insurance will not cover the trailer if it is not returning to Ont. with in 6 months of leaving. You will have to insure the trailer in the state it is being stored and this might mean changing registration of trailer from Ont. to the state in which it is being stored.
