Finding Normal

We're heading to Hyder, Alaska, as far as I can tell the nearest road-accessible Alaska town from the smaller 48, in August.

Great opportunities for bear watching in Hyder and enroute; they were as prolific as deer in the Cascades on our last trip there.

It's a great destination with RV parks in both Hyder and the adjacent Canadian town of Stewart. Aside from the bears the mountains and glaciers are magnificent and the rest of the drive through BC ain't too shabby either. Add to that the Glacier Inn in Hyder where one can get "Hyderized" and visit some of the film locations of Leaving Normal.

Happy camping!

Finding Normal

If you're looking for Normal, it's just north of Bloomington.

We had a bear show at the campground there also a gal in a pickup truck didn't know a bear was watching her from a tree 15 ft away...
He stayed around and got his breakfast from the campground fenced in trash pile. climbed one of the trees supported by 4 or 5 trees, jumped into the pile got the bag he wanted pushed his way out under the fence.... as he crossed the 2 drives he looked both ways before crossing and we figured he was gone.. he came back with his bag of goodies and tore it open. The show went on for another 10 min or so..
