The idea is to keep the valve closed until you get the stinky slinky all hooked up, then you open the valve.....any mess left in the pipe goes directly into the slinky and not on you or the ground

Be sure to check the valves before or during setup. I have had "someone" open my valves while my unit was in storage. I'm grateful that I saw it before anything hit the tank!

A clear 45 degree elbow is a must as mentioned. I fill up two 6 gallon water jugs and leave them in the shower stall prior to entering the dump station.

After the black tank has been emptied, but the valve is still opened I dump one jug down the toilet to flush any residue. Close the valve and dump the second jug down with my Calgon/laundry mix.

NOOOOOO! its been emptied already.

I guess that was the first time i was wrong.

We watched a guy with a 500,000 motor home pull up to dump after the NASCAR races in NH in 2013.

His hose was 6 inches short of where the dump hole was and he still pulled the lever - running back to the hose to try and Arc it in.

it beat him to teh end and he then pulled off the other end at the coach and started to yell at his wife.

by the time they were done fighting with each other they were both coated in STUFF and left thehose there on the ground and drove away.

There are times when you can get a toilet paper dam right at the tank exit, which can hold back several gallons of "tank contents". Last weekend I emptied my rear black tank and ran the flush for 3-4 minutes before a big gush came out, paper dam.

What Meep Meep said and uses. With those you don't ever get your feet full of doo doo. You hook your sewer hose to it first then use your valves. Granted some idiot might pull the handle and close it again. Those clear elbows let you see what'ss there before you open the cap.

I took the cap off to dump the black tank and found out the valve wasn't closed from last time.
