Leaving for Dawson City Yukon

Well we are finally getting away in a few hours . We will travel to Dawson City and spend 6 days there then onto the Top of the World Highway and into Alaska before returning home October 4. Excited about the trip! It is our first extended trip with this trailer and we will probably be glad of the furnace before the trip is over. I will try to post some pictures along the route but am not sure where or when we will be able to get internet access. Maybe we will strike it rich doing some gold panning .

Jon, Most McDonald's and Starbucks restaurants have free WiFi. You don't have to be inside for it to work, and there is no sign up other than agreeing to play nice.

Now if Tim Hortons would catch on and offer WiFi I would have a donut now and then!

I don't think there are too many McScrawny's or Starbucks in YT. Is AK overrun w/ them?

Arrived in Dawson City a few days ago. Incredible scenery en route. One glitch was a charging problem TV/Trailer. Dealer in Whitehorse found a blown 40 amp fuse in the truck. Replaced that and all works fine. I attached a couple of photos as a sample of the views. We plan to visit a mine here tomorrow. There sure is a lot of interesting history here.

Absolutely beautiful! I'm waiting for more pictures! How has the weather been? It snowed here in Southwestern Alberta yesterday. Any rv tricks for the cold weather you can share?

The weather here has been beautiful. Each day has been sunny all day with the temperature getting up to around 18 degrees. It is daylight until about 9:30 . Each morning has been frosty about minus 2 or 3. We are staying at the Bonanza Gold RV park here and have electrical hookup and we have a small electric space heater which we have on during the night so we don't use our propane and it is working out well. We got to do some gold panning today and got 4 small gold nuggets. We plan to have them mounted at a gold store here tomorrow (Monday). We plan to do more site seeing in the area over the next couple of days then travel on the Top of the World Highway into Alaska. The border crossing on that road closes September 24, so we will get over it just before the closure.

Your weather has been nicer than we've had here where it's been 5 or 6 degrees and raining / sleeting / snowing.

The gold panning sounds like great fun! Aside from the space heater what else are you doing for cold weather?

I scraped ice off the windshield yesterday. Your kind invitation is enticing.

Arrived in Whitehorse just after noon today. Snow!!!!! The first picture is what it was like when we got up this morning in Haines Junction. The second is what the battery boxes looked like when we arrived in Whitehorse. I had to chip the ice off of the stabilizer chain so I could undo them We got lulled by the incredible sunny weather in Dawson City. Sunny every day for the week we were there. It is supposed to warm up with rain over the next couple of days here and we will probably leave Monday, working our way east then south. Another time we would probably leave in August. We are keeping warm with the space heater and the trailer furnace.

We keep an eye on the weather in Whitehorse as we have friends up there. Saw on the Friday news that they had gotten snow.

One of the reasons for getting the TT is I'm hoping to drive out & visit them in the future. My parents had driven out (GM Van conversion) in '88 & '92. I flew out to Edmonton in '05 & rented a minivan for the rest of the trip & motelled it.

Well we made it safely back home a week ago Monday. What an incredible trip. Just under 8000km. We saw a lot of different wildlife along the way. The Buffalo were North of Liard Hot Springs. The herd was on both sides of the highway in no hurry to go anywhere. The other pictures are from our favorite National Park - Jasper - in Alberta. Just near the end of the trip we spent a couple of nights there in the Whistlers campsite. Not sure where we will plan to go next year as it would be tough to top this year's holiday.

We saw buffalo near Liard too when we drove up in '05. Did you see any horses on the road? We saw a herd of 'em standing/sleeping on the road.

For those of that more than likely will never get to see sights like that, I THANK YOU! I love looking at where some of the LUCKY people get to go see. As for me it is only in my dreams that I see sights like that. Again, Thank you.

Didn't see any horses on the road, but saw the caribou south of Liard then the elk in Jasper Park.
