Question Need advice on entering Canada

The DW and I are planning to visit the Maritime Provinces in Canada later this summer. On our way there (from Oklahoma) we plan to spend a day or two in Arcadia National Park. Upon leaving the park, is there a best way to enter New Brunswick? Is the border crossing at Calais/St. Stephens as good as going back to I-95? It looks like it would be much shorter to Halifax that way.
Eventually, we'll go to Halifax and to PEI, etc., but I'm basically wondering about road quality getting to the border.

You can pick up Route 9 in Bangor and enter Canada at Calais / St Stephen.
The road is in good shape ,a bit hilly in places ,not many services on it , but I would take it rather than driving up I95 to Houlton.
