Starting to put together a summer itinerary for this summer (Jun/Jul)-probably seven days in total. Travelling in 31' Class C motorhome. Starting in Washington, DC area. Looking at first stop in the Thousand Islands area (thinking of Wellesley Island State Park in New York) for a few days. From there, thinking of either Prince Edward County area or Bass Lake Provincial Park (any recommendations/thoughts?) for a day or two. Then to Niagara Falls area for a day or two (recommendations/thoughts?) before heading back to Washington, DC. Appreciate your suggestions!

For Niagara Falls, we loved Four Mile Creek State Park. It's electric only but have a good many water spigots for filling between the sites - we just stretched a few hoses together and didn't have to move our campers. A friend was at the site next to one and they told him that as long as he puts on a "Y", he could stay hooked up to water.

We love Wellesley Island, We cam there every year, The fox loop is full hookups, They are open sites, but large. There are a lot of electric sites which sit next to the river. Really can't go wrong.

Thanks for the suggestions. With these and further research have updated the plan to drive from Washington, DC to Wellesley State Park (spend a couple days), drive to Tobermory, ON (spend a couple days), drive to Niagara Falls (spend a day) and then back to DC.

Tentatively looking at Lands End Campground in Tobermory. Appreciate any suggestions, reviews, or ideas for the Tobermory area.

Singing Sands National park, amazing sand beach.

Bruce Trail for hiking a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Flowerpot Island glass bottom boat tours

Diving, artificial reef and natural reef.

Fishing! Charter can yield some nice Trout from the deep waters of Georgian Bay.

Find a Restaurant that serves Georgian Bay Whitefish, IMHO the best this side of Newfoundland!

Visit Wiarton on the way up where Wiarton Willies chooses when Spring happens

This a remote area, fuel up in Owen Sound.

The roads up to Tobermeory are good 2 lane roads, maximum speed is 55 mph but with small towns takes a bit longer. To go from Niagara Falls (Queenston Bridge) I would add at least 90 minutes to any predicted Google map times.

We spend many days and weeks a year on Lake Huron, Georgian Bay and North Channel on the other side of the Bay.

Some GPS's will route you into the lake down a boat ramp, don't laugh happened to tourists a year ago.

north shore rv park, quintes isle rv park or presquille provincial park in prince Edward county.

i live just outside of niagara falls. definitely make your way back to USA to camp in niagara falls area. on the Canadian side the park are crowded and overpriced.

if your heart is no tset on niagara falls, try green lakes state park on way way back to DC. its just outside of syracuse.

Sandbanks Provincial Park in Prince Edward County. We've stayed at Land's End Campground in Tobermory, very wooded and nice. FlowerPot Island is a must. We took the glass bottom boat out and the jet boat back. Pack your lunch if you go.

We've never camped a Land's End, but we have at Tobermory Village Campground, and recommend it highly. Also agree with the votes for Presquille and Sandbanks. South of Tobermory in the Goderich Area are some good private and Provincial Parks. Just W of Niagara is 50 Point Conservation Area- very nice and close to many wineries and historic sites. Also look at Grand River Conservation Area parks- they have some great parks.

Have stayed at Wellesley Island State Park. Also, try Grass Point SP, Kewaydin SP, Cedar Point SP, 1000 Islands SP, -- all in the area near I-81 north to Canada. Kring Point SP is further down the river but not that far. Try to get reservations soon from RA as they fill up quickly. You may be too late as I print this. Be sure to check out your requirements. I should have mentioned Wellesley Island State Park is just off I-81 on Wellesley Island which is connected by a toll bridge to the NY mainland. Then on I-81, you will be crossing another bridge from Wellesley Island into Canada and the Canadian Customs. Very picturesque and scenic area.

The negative with Wellesley Is is the toll. If you want to go anywhere during your stay, you’ll have to pay the toll everytime you get off or on the island

Should've made these reservations prior to Christmas as a lot of these places were booked/unavailable for our first choice of dates! However, was able to snag the last site with electricity at Wellesley State Park for our second choice of dates. Four Mile State Park at Niagara was unavailable during the dates we needed but made a reservation at 50 Points West Conservation Area which is an area we want to explore.

Looking forward to visiting the Thousand Island, Tobermory, and Niagara areas this summer. Thanks for all the recommendations!

NO NO NO on the "Y" - we have camped there for 30 years and it's a State Park with Electric ONLY!! You pay for electric!! NOT WATER!! My DH and I blew people in at the office for doing that, it is not fair to everyone else, only the people near the water spigot (2 units) can get water that way, not fair!! If that is what people are doing, it is against the law! Please don't ruin that fabulous park for everyone, UNBELIEVEABLE!!

We stayed at Wellesley State Park in September ...nice park, right on the St. Lawrence River.
One of the many attractions is Alexandria Bay, we did the two country boat tour which included Boldt Castle ...a lot of fun. The restoration that is still underway is incredible as to magnitude / workmanship and attention to detail.

Downtown "A" Bay is a bit tight because of tourist congestion...but there are very large parking lots just a very short distance from everything including the boat docks.

I'm just sharing what the office told them. They said that as long as he put a "Y" on and left an open side for others, that he was welcome to stay hooked up.

It was common practice because deeper in the campground, I literally saw a spigot with 2 or 3 "Y"s on it of people who hooked up and kept leaving an open side.

Your argument isn't with me- it's with the staff there. They said and encouraged it.

Yes, there will be a toll each time you come back to the mainland from the island but Wellesley Island is a large island with several interesting communities for you to explore. At the south end of the island is the Thousand Island Park (TI Park), an interesting community of homes built around the early late 1800's/early 1900s and recognized as a National Historic Community. At TI Park there is an ice cream store and a historic hotel where fine dining is offered. At the north end of Wellesley Island is "Westminster Park" another interesting collection of home built in the early 1900s. Near Wellesley Island SP is Grandview is a third area of home/cottages mostly built in the 1900s. At Wellesley Island SP is a nature center that you must visit while you're there. Knowing all this you may not want to leave the island that many times and pay that toll. Just for your information, the Thousand Island Bridge Authority manages and maintains the bridges that cross the St. Lawrence River. These bridges are, in their own right, historic structures. In fact in 2018 the TIBA celebrated the 75th anniversary of the opening of the Wellesley Island Bridge with the Hill Island Bridge being a little later. Both are impressive structures and carry huge amounts of traffic, both commercial and pleasure vehicles back and forth to and from Canada. You won't be disappointed staying at Wellesley Island and you ARE lucky to have found a site for your rig at the State Park. Bon Echo Provincial Park or Charleston Lake Provincial Park when in the 1000 Islands area...

I would recommend Presquille Prov Park on north shore of Lake Ontario. Try get into High Bluffs

As for the Bruce Pen and the National Parkes there we were there 2 summers ago with a 32 Foot Class C and found the area very motorhome unfriendly. No parking for motorhomes at many of the site you might want to visit eg the Grotto and where there is motorhome parking cars use it and the Parks Canada personnel don't do anything about it. Tobermory is also motorhome unfriendly with metermaids waiting to ticket you if you park in the wrong place. Theres pay parking on the roads but no sign to say cars only and you pay and still get ticketedWe had our first and last trip to the Bruce 2 years ago.
