Travelling through Montreal...Highway 20 or the new Highway 30

Hi all,

I'm heading East from Ontario to PEI in a couple weeks and as usual we'll be traveling through Montreal. We typically go highway 20 to 40 but I see the new Highway 30 below Montreal was completed late last year. I hear it is a toll road.

Does anyone have any recent experience (this year) with highway 30 now that the road is complete? A small toll is money well spent if it saves time and stress en-route.

Any input with recent experiences would be greatly appreciated.

p.s. Google maps says 30 is a minute slower but I'm sure it's not factoring in the traffic.

It is a small toll and well worth the money. I have been taking 30 for the past 7 or 8 years. It was built before that time but Quebec could not afford to build the bridge that would connect 30 with 20. You will connect with 30 just before Montreal and reconnect with 20 just east of the tunnel.

Highway 30 is now complete and we took it a couple of times already. It is definitely worth the toll $1.15 per axle. It saves a lot of time and traffic. I have driven too many times on 20 and traffic to throw myself into it with a trailer.
We are also going to Nova Scotia in August, nice now that we won't have to drive through Beauharnois

My cousin just took the Highway 30 heading East and saved 1/2 hour over his normal time. With the good reviews here it looks like we're going to follow his lead.

We are camping at Lake George RV park and drove from Kingston to Syracuse to 90 and up. On the way back, we plan on taking 87 to 15 to 30 now that we don't have to go through Montreal or small roads. It took us 6 hours to get here, I'm hoping it's a little quicker that route.

As per mapquest 87 to 15 to 401 to Kingston is 5 1/2 hours if traffic is not heavy.

Just back from our East coast trip and I can confirm our attempt on the new highway 30 was an overwhelming success. Arrived at Montreal around 4:30pm on Thursday, probably the worst time of the day to make the crossing but using highway 30 I was able to stay at my usual cruising speed of 100km with only one slow down for a minute or two while another road merged. Traffic was light and the road was in excellent condition.

I think my days of using highway 20 are officially and happily over.
