255 gts generator

Has anyone installed a meter in rig to check if generator is charging?

Do you mean if the coach generator is charging the coach batteries? I don't think the generator charges the coach batteries. I was under the impression that the coach batteries are charged from 120V hookup power, engine alternator, or through manual charging. If you want to check if the coach batteries are being charged when hookedup, connect a multimeter across the +/- terminals and see if you're getting 13+ volts. As for manual charging, a good digital manual charger will display the charge voltage when charging manually. As for the alternator charging, you can hook up a multimeter to the coach batteries and then gas the engine and see if there is a voltage increase. I have used the first 2 methods but not the last but it should work. Good Luck.

Generator 255

Thank You for the reply. I have had sail boats before that have meters to show voltage of batteries and most cars have volt meters to verify the alternator is working and I thought it would be nice to do the same for the auxillary batteries but you are right, it would be easy to use a multimeter to verify the generator is working. I also thought a voltmeter would show the level of the batteries and if they needed charging so they wouldn't be damaged.
You answered another question I had because I'm new at owning a RV. The alternator charges the auxillary batteries as well as the engine battery.
