Alternator on V10 not charging

I replaced the engine starting battery in my 2009 E450 V10. No sparks or any other problems. It was a simple replacement! Now the alternator wouldn't charge! Help! Need to hit the road today.
Thanks

Assuming the battery light is on?

Shouldn't have been sparks if you unhooked battery before starting the job.

Assuming the alternator didn't just give out I'd say you missed attaching a wire.

Or blew a fuse

Not familiar with ford systems however, ford used to use fusible links on starter wires and you may have to get into fuse box to check for a blown fuse.

You didn't say if the engine was running, or not. A key on and engine not running will give a battery light on

Well bob take the alt. off and have it checked. If it is no good as you assumed replace it and get out on the road. I guess i don't understand the question. Are you asking how it could happen by simply replacing the battery? Guess you could have fried it by shorting something out. If it's bad it's bad.

As Turbs asked, if you have 12Volts @ big post on back of Alternator.......12 volt test light would work.

In today's world of auto parts stores, it's not uncommon AT ALL to get a bad unit right out of the box. They are "rebuilt" (and I use the term very loosely) for next-to-nothing, and with labor that gets paid about the same.

Typical wisdom on the Ford boards is to take yours to your town's "reputable rebuilder" and have him go through your old one. Far better, long-lasting results are to be had that way.

Life-time guarantee? Sure! They couldn't sell that crap at all without one!

The only thing I can add, assuming your "new" alternator is really OK, is that Ford uses a fuse (usually 5-amps) in the field wire. Look in your Owner's Manual to find which one it is.

Oh, and rarely (but sometimes) the small connector on the alternator has pins that get loose with the constant vibration. They lose their "tension" and you end up with a bad or intermittent connection. The connectors are available separately to enable you to splice a new one in place if that's the case.

But I'd be first looking for a bad out-of-box unit.

Ford 6G alternators are good units, but the domestic parts-house rebuilds are usually crap.

Springer. Unless i missed something he didn't replace it yet. Many aftermarket companies are making new one's they are not as much as they use to be.
