E450 - Rear Airbags?

I took my 2006 Forest River Lexington 283GTS to Camping World to have airlift airbags installed. They keep it for 3 three weeks and gave up (couldn't figure out how to install them). Just wondering if anyone has had either Firestone or Airlift airbags installed on a Lexington. Thanks, Dave

I'll answer my own question now. Took unit to RV dealer that sold Forest River. They contacted the factory and were told - no way to install airbags. They have the body of the rv to low to the axles, so there isn't room for the airbags. I guess I've just saved some money and wasted some time. Dave

Dave , have you found out a way to level your rig. We need to do the same thing and I was surprised that Air Bags could not be installed. I mean whats the difference from any other model that uses the E-450 chassis. They cant install anything below the frame and the axel. Wouldn't that be where the bags would be installed?

Dave, I called Forest River today and asked about the ability to install rear airbags they gave me the number to the Ford Motoorhome division. I was told that airbags will fit.

If you are still interested and have not given up the Air Bag idea, contatct O.C. Fleet Service in Santa Ana California 714-715-0330 talk to Russell about their resolution to the problem of Air Bags for the Ford 450 Super Duty Chassis! I was there yesterday, Friday 25 Nov 2011, to have the Front End Aligned and Front Wheels Balanced on our 2009 GTS, and we got into a discussion about Rear End Sag, which resulted in their Shop Foreman Mike (who has over 30 years in the trade) explain that they have found an Air Bag that is adaptable and works on the 450 chassis.

Ours is a 2011 GTS 265DS and it came from the factory with the Firstone bags installed. Wonder what changed?

After having this unit for a few years now - other than keeping it repaired I wouldn't spend on anything extra on this piece of junk!!!!

Timbrens may have something that work work instead of the airbag set-up. The timbrens replace the factory axle bump stop.
