After looking for hidden in-line fuses, etc., I gave up and cut the wires from the control box, ran a 10 gauge wire from the battery, bought this switch Amazon.com: 30 Amp Rocker Switch Polarity Reverse DC Motor Control: Automotive
, added a 25 amp in-line fuse, drilled through the floor and mounted the switch next to the scare light switch in my Lexington 235.
It's a pretty simple switch and works like a charm. 4 quick connect terminals: power, ground, 2 for the motor (red and yellow wires).
A better solution would have been to replace the electric step with a manual one, but that would have required cutting and welding. I'll swear some features are added to RV's just to torture the owners.
