Problems with exterior plastic cracking

2004 lexington 24' - the posterior plastic cap (that curves over the top edge and side exterior corners) and sides have several cracks - I've tried to plastic weld but not very successful. Forest River want's $1000 for the part - any ideas - thanks a bunch

That should be fiberglass and I'd check with a local boat repair place to see if they'll work on it.

If you body is gel coat, it is really the same product that the boat ind. uses. I had a boat for along time, I have even sailed over 15000 blue water miles under the keel. What happens is that moist will enter and cause splits or blisters. The best product to use is called red devil. becareful how you apply it and clean the area and dig in to get out all the loose or desperation area, it is very hard to sand but will become stronger then the gel coat. Then touch up with paint, it will not seperated after that. You can buy it at a marine supply store such as west marine
