Question Roof AC

I have a 2005 Lexington 283GTS and looking to replace the AC. Does anyone have a suggestion on size and make to buy? I live in Arizona so I need something that will work in the heat. There is only one unit to keep me cool. All suggestion are appreciated.

15k is the largest you can buy, there are only really two brands, Coleman and Dometic, I would go with Coleman. You might want to check Carrier to, I think they may make one now but not sure. If they do get Carrier. I think the slim line that Dometic came out with is nice looking but to make it that way they had reduce the coil area, so even if it will produce the the same BTU as they state it would have to work harder to do. I would also look into a HP if your going to change units. They do help to keep the nip out of the air on a chilly morning. For the extra money which isn't much it might be worth it, depending on your style of camping and places you like to go.

Actually Atwood makes a 15k that they rate at 18,000 BTU's. We have tested a few and they are pretty darn quiet. That would be my choice, looking at them now. They were actually just bought by Dometic. Still has the Atwood name and design.

I second the suggestion for getting a heat pump if it's an advantage for your style and frequency of travel. We ordered one with our Sunseeker 3100 and have used it a lot. We may never break even on the cost of it versus the savings in propane, but it reduces the frequency of finding a propane station on the road.

You may have to change your thermostat. You may or may not already have all of the wires in place between the thermostat and the roof unit.

A/C Replacement

I agree a 15K BTU is the largest unit, and I would get the heat pump model so as to conserve your LP in the colder months. I am considering replacing my 13500 straight cool unit in my Lexie 255 GTS. I have been looking at the Advent Air 15K Heat Pump. They claim their 15K is like anybody else's 16500. Check it out Advent Air | RV Air Conditioners & RV Appliances
