Rubber roof repair for Lexington 235

Any suggestions for temporary (12-24) months repair of a rubber roof? I was informed mine needs to be replaced. The price tag is $2300.

There are lots of available materials for roof repair. Check out eternabond and DICOR products (patch kits & sealants). Although your RV is old and a rubber roof will eventually need replacement, you should also be skeptical if that advice came from an RV service department. Get some advice from a seasoned RVer who has some handy-man skills.

Good points. The roof is original and has some cuts that look like could be caulked or patched. I just don't want to buy a new roof since. I just bought the RV.

I thought all Lexington's had fiberglass roofs..... My 2006 did....

If it's slits then Eternabond tape would probably do the trick. 2" to 4" wide is the way I would go. Follow the easy prep and installation instructions and will last for years. JMO.

Thanks. I'm going to try to recover with something like liquid roof and I also purchased Dicor and will look for the Eternabond as well.

Eternabond...

I am a professional roofer by trade and we use Eternabond to repair roofs that are out of warranty all the time. Fantastic stuff. Just make sure to get the bonding surface as clean as possible and use something to roll the eternabond down. We use a silicone roller. Anything similar should work.

What liquid rubber would you suggest. I have heard the names liquid rubber, liquid roof, Henry, etc.

Does anyone have an opinion about Black Jack Ultra-Roof 1000 for a rubber RV roof. I can get it at Lowes.

I don't like any of the coatings for a rubber roof. I think they cause more problems than they solve. Do you have a picture of your roof and the cuts? Also do you happen to know what brand it is?

BTW we actually use EverSeal tape from OMG. I don't know if that is available retail or not, but it is very similar to the Eternabond.

A roll of Eternabond will go a long ways on patching a few cuts. You also need to take a close look at the sealants (caulking) around the vents and other roof penetrations. It typically needs to be reworked every 2-3 years. I try to inspect the roof of my RV's every 3 months or sooner if I think there might be a problem. They get washed down once a year if possible.

I don't have a picture. It is a 2003 Lexington 235. The roof has spots that have been patched with Dicor and it needs to be resurfaced. I want a good covering and I need to determine if a primer is necessary.

Most coatings I have dealt with require that the roof surface be thoroughly cleaned, typically on a commercial roof it is a power washer. Any loose sealants must be removed and then redone after the coating is put on. I have used the Elastomeric Polymer coating from Kool-Seal in the past with decent results on small sections. For larger projects I used Truco, but I believe that is only available to commercial applicators.

Most coatings don't require a primer.

Just completed the roof repair. It took about five hours start to finish. It looks pretty good. Cost......$165.
