Scooter on hitch carrier?

The dealer told me the hitch load limit is 500 lbs - but I no longer trust anything he said :-) I have purchased a Honda scooter that weighs about 280 lbs, and wanted to carry it someway. I have been playing around with a hitch carrier I have purchased, having difficulty loading and unloading the scooter by myself anyway, but wanted to make sure in the meantime - I am safe carrhying the scooter on the back on a hitch carrier, right?

Yes. There should be a label on the side of the hitch that has the load ratings
