Slide topper screws connecting to slide won't tighten

I can't tighten the topper to the slide, seems like they are not connecting to anything. Thought about larger screws?Click image for larger version

Looks like a possible solution. If it were mine and didn't want to have the dealer mess with it or go back to the factory, I would cut a 6" x 6" x 1/8" alum plate and glue, screw or pop rivet it around the edges and then mount the bracket back on using ss sheet metal screws into the alum plate.
