Understanding Lexington Body Terms

I'm researching our first RV purchase looking at a 2008 Lexington 300SS. According to the VIN report it is built a Ford E450 Chassis classified as a Full size van with a wheel base of 158-176 inches. According to FR specifications it has a 223 inch wheel base.

Why the difference between the VIN Specifications and actual?

I can't help you but hope someone can answer the question. Maybe the original Lexington was shorter and as the lengthen it, the wheelbase had to move. (?)

I believe FR purchases all of their Ford "E" chassis in the 158" WB length and then "Stretches" them for the various WB lengths for the many models they build. Yours was stretched to 223" for the 300SS model which is the same as ours. The "stretches" are done at a Coachmen plant and are very professionally done.

FR didn't own Coachmen until December, 2008 - A Proud History - Coachmen RV - I would personally like to know more about the stretching process...

We buy the Ford chassis. Cut the drive line, extend the drive line, away we go. We are Ford QVM (Qualified Vehicle Modifier) so they come in and do audits, etc to make sure we are doing things according to their standards. Every single Class C mfg stretches the chassis to get a longer wheelbase on long units.
