Up Hill Power

We just brought home our new Lexi 2011. We were disappointed that we could only go 35mph up the mts. We live in a mountainous region of western Maryland so no matter where we go it's some up hill travel to get out of our area. Has anyone else experienced this? There was one person and no load.

Even without at tow vehicle, hit the "tow/haul" button on the shift lever. That will help the uphill a bit. I drove a 283 from Bend, OR over the mountains to Junction City and held 50 pretty consistently.

Use tow/haul and don't be afraid to put your foot in it. A gas motor will suck a lot of fuel climbing, but that is how you do it. Also follow truckers adage. When approaching a climb step on it to gain more speed at the bottom. That will help you carry speed over the hill.

Well, I guess I 'll find out what it takes to get up a hill of two... We're heading from Texas to RMNP, Tetons, and Yellowstone in a few weeks.... (July 16 - Aug 1) have an 06 283 with the V10... Will be pulling a small trailer also...

Hello everyone.... I'm new to the forum and am looking forward to meeting some of you on the road sometime.... We have a 2006 Lex 283GTS that we bought in 2007.... Have taken many short (200 - 600) mile trips in it... We are taking our first serious trip in it the last two weeks of July... Taking our 14 & 11 yr old grandsons to Yellowstone which should be a blast.... Anyone going to be up that way look us up.... We will be the Texas Lexi pulling a black cargo trailer... Be safe in all your travels....

Sorry for the delayed reply, this is DaleDad (I suppose) and I'm just catching up to this exchange.
First, it's a 2010 Lexington, not 2011.
Yes, the engine is the Triton V10.
We got no manual (that we've found) from the dealer for the Ford's operation.
I found the tow/haul button (hadn't been informed about that).
Haven't got back on the road to try it out, but what does it do?
Is it just an overdrive lockout, as my neighbor suggested?

50MPH I can live with, but 35 is seriously sorry performance.

The Tow/Haul changes the shift points so you'll run higher RPM's when climbing (to maintain speed). Going downhill it will downshift when you hit the brakes so you're not riding the brakes....uses the transmission to slow you down. Works pretty good in my opinion.

Don't be affraid to get the rpms to 4 or 5 thousand. I usually run in tow hall mode unless I'm on really flat roads. Push on the gas, when you need to. Have fun, David

Thanks for all the replies to our uphill power problem!
We'll definitely be using the Tow/Haul button when we get back on the road.
Currnently set up in the driveway for a shakedown.
Next project: install a 30A hookup in our garage.
Fortunately, that's where the breaker box is!

I'll keep an eye open, will be there in and out of Yellowstone the last two weeks of July, we love it up there.

I also have a rack on the p/u with 3 kayaks, the 18th - 24th will probably be near Jackson Lake in the Teton NP, 25th - 28th will be on Hebgen Lake just north of West Yellowstone, we plan to be in and out of the YNP several times during the two weeks.

Nice rig... Here's our Lexington... We will be in Jackson/Teton area 18-21 and then Yellowstone 22-26... Maybe we will cross paths.... This will be our 6th time up there...
