2016 3050 - TV While Driving?!?!

Hello All!!

It's been a while - I hope you had a great Thanksgiving.

OK, I have two questions. One is just out of curiosity.

I am driving to Florida in February, our longest trip yet. Until now I haven't really cared about TV while we drive because we haven't traveled more than 5 hours. But now I think that I better remedy this problem or I may be leaving a child or two at a truckstop. . . .

We have 3 TV's in our Sunseeker, and none of them work when we drive because we have an antenna, and no 110 volt outlet for our DVD player. Our interior TV's are cheap Jensens and are strangely wired to plug into a 12 volt car lighter type receptacle. My Honda Ridgeline has a 110 outlet! So here are my questions:

1. Curiosity - Is there any reason why Forest River didn't use a 110 outlet? It would be nice to swap TV's and plug in a DVD player without running the generator.

2. How can I fix this problem? I want to be able to run 1 TV and a little Sony DVD Player while I'm driving.

3. Would it be a big deal to have the outlets behind the TV's wired to 110? I hate the TV's anyway, and would love to swap them and be able to plug in accessories.

Thanks so much everyone!

Bill

I play DVDs for the GKs from my magadyne in dash unit. I place DVD on player and than put the switch box on DVD. Choose AV2 as input source on TV. I than set my speaker switch to living room only. I know you may have a different in dash unit but setup may be somewhat the same method.

110 volt power while driving requires running the generator or adding an inverter. Some DVD players run on 12 volts - like the one in the dash unit, as Garrette mentioned. A portable player may come with or have available a "car adaptor". Could also add a small, "cigarette lighter" inverter to run a DVD player at the tv.

Thanks, but I have a Jensen radio. I don't think it does that.

OK, I'm a little pissed that no one told me that my in Dash Jensen can play DVD's and that it is NO WHERE in the manuals. I'll try tomorrow to see if I can get it to work, and I'll get back to you folks. Thanks so much.

Just a thought and dont want you to get excited but check your bedroom tv right hand side I believe it should have a dvd player built in. 12v TVs make it easier to Dry camp no inverter needed. By the way you could always run your generator while driving if you prefer your 120v dvd player

I would put a DVD in the Jensen in and see what happens. It will either play, not play, give error or eject. Wont hurt nothin.

My in dash Jensen radio/dvd player only will work the dvd if the unit is parked with the parking brake applied. I use a 12 volt to 110v inverter (from harbour junk) to run 110v things while driving.(plugs into 12volt power outlet puts out up to 400 watts of 110v power.enough to run a dvd / a tv. and my phone system.

Mark1 you should be able to run the dash dvd player to your main Tv while driving using Jenson VM9726BTC. Video wont appear on dash screen but willrun on TV. See VM9726BTC instruction sheet (1).pdf. Video on dash only when parked and emergency on

My unit is the same as yours, 3050s, the Jensen plays DVD & CDs, & a lousy NAV system. The only thing you can't do while driving is watch the movie on the in dash screen. It will play to the other TVs depending how it's wired. A little birdie explained to me that there is a ground wire from the player to the emergency brake switch. NTSB or one of those alphabet agencies requires it for "safety" so drivers don't watch the movie while driving. It shows it on the wiring diagram in the owners manual. I'm electrically challenged so I don't know how to trick it out??? So can't help with that part, hope to figure it out next season.

In many states is illegal to have an operating TV where the driver can see it while in motion.

Whatever you decide, I would say don't be afraid of running the generator while driving. It sips fuel, and if you are traveling in hot weather, really helps keep the caning cool. not to mention keeping your refrigerator, microwave, potable water and lavatory in action. Ours has a DVD player on the middle TV, which we use while driving. What I do on a long uphill grade,, is turn off the engine driven A/C.

DoctorT68, me again....

Go pick out a small blue ray player (most have backward capability for the old dvds) check the amp load (1.0 amp would surprise me) or watts. Determine how you want to feed the tv as I dont think it has hdmi. I would strongly consider a xbox with the dvd capabilities, the kids would freak.. Then go get a cheap (25 bucks) 12v to 120 inverter from any car part shop that exceeds the load by about 30%.

Dang...Now I want the xbox....

At my step area of my SunSeeker there is an inverter switch that powers my TV. I have a DVD,VHS player in cabinet near TV. Can watch from couch when driving. Not driver!

Did it come with an inverter and switch? Did you install one aftermarket.

The Jennsen TV's do have HDMI feeds on them , another idea is if you are carrying a laptop with you just load some movies up on it and run it through the TV. ( Hopefully the laptop battery is good)
