2860 Surge Guard Remote Monitor Location
Could not find this query in any of the threads so I will open one.
I have a 2013 2860 and am installing the 30A Surge Guard under the bed, so I have read, and would like to place the monitor next to the Control Panel on the wall beside the fridge. Before I start crawling around under the chassis looking for cable runs, has anyone every installed the monitor next to the Control Panel. I am not really sure what cable bundles or single wires are behind that wall. Or has anyone ever installed a monitor in any wall of any model Sunseeker.
Thanks

If you mean wires ? The only wire thats needed to attach to an EMS PI unit is the orange coated 3 wire that is incoming power from your power cord.
You can see it cut in picture 4 and 5 .
You can just use those wires to attach to the PI unit but mine came with the quick disconnects .

That's perty slick, Turbs. I like those male-female connectors. Easy to take the unit off-line if it messes the bed.

Although I cannot take credit for the ones pictured I did have thoughts of it when I was looking for AN EMS .
The two on the unit were on it when I bought it I had to put on the other two ends.

Opinion time..I have read that the surge guard can be insatlled under the bed...seems like that would cause overheating...but I have also seen snaps of them being installed in the electrical basement...possible water leaks. Access should would be simplier on the install. Since I am a rookie on this I am deferring this to the ole timers and experienced campers.
What say thee.

I put mine under the bed. I wired it after the transfer switch and before the electric panel so it protects when on shore power or generator. I mounted the remote below the electric panel which is on the front edge of the bed in our unit. Very pleased with installation and operation .

I had dead space in the cabinets right where the power comes into the left rear corner of the camper. I used the OEM style sockets as well to wire up my Franks Autotransformer (to make removal easy if I needed to).
The display was put right on the face of the cabinet.

Hey guys,
Looking under the 2860 bed to mount the Surge Guard. Kinda tight with the freshwater tank amd storage drawers. Any idea what the silver box is..My first guess was the transfer switch byulooking at the doc that came with the MH, there are not enough cables. Looks like 1 input power cable but not sure what the orange ones are unless they go to the Onan.
Guess I could use the power bay last resort..

Looks to me like that box seperates the two legs of your incoming power.
Hang your unit on the wall next to the gray box.

I thought about that..one orange does go to a flex conduit that heads out of the bed box and the other to the distro. I guess the transfer box has 2 ways to input and output the power. On the back side there are 3 other power cutouts that show Shore, Gen, and Distro.

The black cable is your shore power cord. One of the orange cables should be from the generator and the other go to the breaker panel (distro). The silver box is the transfer switch. I located the orange that went to the breakers and found it had enough slack in it to cut it about a foot from the transfer switch and insert the surge protector at that point. That way I have protection for both shore and generator power. I have used it with both power sources and it works great.

RvBILL3,
If you install the unit after the transfer switch, can the transfer switch be zapped if there is a shore or gen power problem. I know the Surge Guard Install doc has it both ways and just asking for experience on this.
Thanks

I suppose that is possible. The shore power cord could also melt or weld to the outlet under some circumstances. The goal is to protect the electric appliances and electronics inside. I liked the idea of protecting them from both a surge on shore power and a malfunctioning generator. As you said, directions give both options.

Tend to agree with you..I have much more output cables slack than the input. Beside I agree with portecting both sources..if it can happen it will happen to me.
Thanks.. let you know how it went.

Finally got the Surge Guard installed in our 2860. It was kinda difficult in that leaning over the bed frame was hard on the knees and ribcage..even with pillows. I put the remote monitor on the bathroom side of the bed between the power outlet and the front of the bed. I was going to put it at the end around the corner from the power distro box but just knew someone would kick the joystick and break it. At this time I just cut the output power line between the transfer switch and the disto box and used a single gang box to splice. I think later I will remove the transfer box cover and run a new 10/2 from it to the Surge Guard line input. Eliminates the gang box. I will attach some snaps later.
