2860DS spare tire question

How is the spare tire stored on a 2860DS? Is it just hanging underneath or is there some kind of mechanism/bracket to lower it gently for removal?

Don't have the same exact model but I think all are the same. The spare is bolted and chained up. It's a PITA to get off. Not sure how you would do it easily without a floor jack or some means to hold it and lower it while you unscrew the nut and remove the bracket. You could probably use the chain to hold it up then lower it on your chest and muscle it out from under. I installed an Econoline van spare tire winch so I can just crank it up and down just like most pickups today.

Most people just seem to have a road service contract so it's some else's problem.

X2 on the roadside service. Check your RV insurance policy. I have Progressive and 'free' roadside service is included in the policy.

Used it once so far when I had a blowout on I-10 in central Texas. Always give the guy a tip as he's just working for the man and putting himself at risk changing tires on a major interstate.

I agree that roadside is the way to go but when I had a blow on the old Jamboree (spare in the big back garage)I had it unbolted and leaning against the coach and hub cap off the flat
Roadside took 20 min
On the road again
It would be nice to get the spare ready,unless Momma is making a picnic setup on the median of I-95

Got on Ebay. Just search for "econoline spare tire winch" and you will find a bunch for sale.
