3170 sunseeker front hitch with scooter

Just sharing my set up with everyone
Put a class 3 hitch on front of are E450
3170 sunseeker so we can bring are
Scooter with on camping trips works perfect !
We bought the tilt a rack carrier . I went with
A scooter thats light and the walk through
Is nice to get air flow to the radiator
Also putting a little over 300 pounds
In front end of the 3170 did no ill affect on handeling it actually helped it with the
10 ft over hang that takes wieght off front
Wheels if you don’t load it the right way .
You can get the hitches off eBay or amazon
For only little over 100 bucks .

Looks good. Is there a reason you didn't put it on the rear hitch? I put a rear cargo carrier on my Sunseeker 2250 for my wife's tricycle and my bike.

Because we pull are car or are fishing boat .

Will throw scooter out on back hitch .
Gives us more options .

You mention that the step through model allows better cooling to the radiator through the front grill. My concern is safety....

It appears both headlights are significantly blocked by the scooter. If you never drive in adverse conditions, I guess it’s not a concern. However, it appears from your photos that neither turn indicator is visible from the front, and this should be foremost in your mind that oncoming traffic can’t see your intentions. Not sure if that would become a legal issue if an incident/accident were to happen.

With that aluminum rack, I would suggest adding strong ratchet straps from each side to the bumper to help support the rack and to prevent oscillation or any motion that could fatigue the aluminum tube. I have a steel rack with a street legal dirt bike on the back of my Sunseeker 3100 and I still add the straps to the bumper, which makes the whole assembly as solid as a rock.

We don’t drive at night yes head lights are blocked . But the blinkers on the mirrors
Work great . Yes we strap the scoot to the front bumper as well .
So far works great for us !

Could be a crap shoot from state to state. Some states require headlights on at all times. Some require headlights on during rain, sleet and snow. Some states require DRL's in vehicles equipped. Often, insurance companies provide discounts for vehicles with DRL's. I would imagine they expect you to use them. Wish you luck.

i would suggest adding directional lights to the front of the rack. Harbor Freight sells them cheap and it would be safer.

Most drivers are expecting turn indicators to be very close, if not beside your headlights. You can’t expect others to scan your rig for other locations. I noticed the blinkers you’re referencing on the mirrors but seriously.....they may be quite visible to you because they’re close to you, but they’re not as bright as you might expect for other drivers because they’re not looking there.

Also....I was a Motorcycle Safety Instructor for years, and always advised the students that the size and brightness of most motorcycle turn indicators are too small and not bright enough to catch the attention of others. They might be more visible at night, but almost invisible during daylight hours, so I always advised using hand signals when possible during the day.

As another suggested, I would look into installing the brightest and largest LED turn indicators on the lead edge of the rack. Can’t hurt.

What is the make and model of your scooter? I have an older Honda NH80 Mascot, very similar to yours. (Mascot was the marketing name for the Canadian market, but it's still an NH 80).

Yes I am looking at putting led blinkers up front for more safety also looking at a led
Lights like you see on plow trucks .
It’s a vintage Yamaha riva 180
Only weighs 250 pounds will hit 70 mph
With just me , with my wife on we can see
62-65 it’s freeway legal .
Fun little scoot to bring with ..
