3170DS - No power/lights to 7 pin connector for toad

I have no power, lights, nothing on the 7 pin connector at the back of the mh. I've looked at the fuse box in the engine compartment and don't see any blown. I don't have a fuse layout so not sure if there are any fuses there for the toad circuits. Is there another fuse box?

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Skip

Dead dead? There is a quick 7 pin layout on e-trailer
Trailer Wiring Diagrams | etrailer.com
Towards the bottom of the page you will find the outside 7 way vehicle connector.
I would take a meter or 12volt probe light to check the feed on all points with the key on using both the blade ground and also checking against the frame.
after that I am lost......

Dead dead. I found that link and used a meter to test, that's how I got as far as I did

Didn't check against frame though, good idea. I'll try again.

Thanks

I found this

https://www.fleet.ford.com/truckbbas...00/130_133.PDF

There seems to be a jumper cord on the ford, I would have expected it to be there from the factory. B. Clemens are you on line? I got nothing else to suggest.

Nice, thanks! I searched for something like this but... appreciate you finding this.

I did more testing and actually found loose screws and wires pulled out of their connectors in both the socket and the toad cable. Go figure.

Now have tail lights but still no brake or turn signals (they're on the same pins). Also no power on the battery pin.

Hopefully this pdf will give me more to work with.

Thanks again for your help!

I've seen the fuses mentioned in some of the replies, but not any Circuit Breaker(s)
If your power for the the 12v line and the Brakes module is wired like mine then
you might have the FIRST circuit breaker in the system has gone bad.
(In mine the 12v power is jump fed to the power for the brake module.
In my case the circuit breakers are under the dash, but sometimes under the hood)

Worth checking as it's a cheap fix.

I assume your 3170 is on a Ford E450 chassis. Check your Ford Owner's Guide for fuses and relays. In the guide for our 2010 year model, the fuse and relay panels are under "Roadside Emergencies". The 7-pin connector is fed from the fuse panel under the hood. There is a fuse AND a relay for each pin. Look for the fuses and relays with the name "Trailer Tow ...". I think the ignition switch has to be in the "Run" position to have power to the "Trailer Tow Battery Charge" pin.

The reason they use a relay and fuse for each service instead of just tapping off the chassis taillight circuits is that if there is short in the trailer (or in this case, coach) lights it won't damage the chassis system. In addition, they don't have to use switches and wires with high amp ratings to serve both the chassis and who knows how many trailer lights.

It's my pleasure to share whatever information I have dug up.

I need to correct my previously posted "quality information". After looking through the Owner's Guide, the coach taillights are not supplied through relays. Just the trailer lights.

And we have a winner! 20 amp fuse in the power distribution box under the hood.

Thanks to Hoglou for the diagram that got me thinkin' and Rambler Guy for confirming it (at least for telling me to read the manual ).

The A-Team!
