Adding RV Plug At House

We are considering adding an RV plug at the house (along with some other work). An electrician is coming tomorrow morning to do an estimate. I know nothing about electric. What do I need to tell the electrician for the RV plug? I know 30 amps (and I have a picture of the prongs so he knows which plug). Is there anything else such as volts to tell him?

Make sure you tell him it is 30A 120V service not 220V. See attached.

here's another look at it. Shows both 30 and 50 amp in this one.

Just print out the pdf file to hand to your electrician that Flybob posted above, and you should be good to go.

He just needs to make sure he understands that it's 120 volt ONLY.

We also keep a copy of that pdf in the FAQ section (link below), just so everyone knows for future reference:

I suggest you consider the day when you might want to move to a 50A trailer - pull enough wire of the right gauge to support 50A so you don't have to get into the wall if you change trailers.

I ran my 50 amp TT off the 30 amp that has #10 wire along with a dog bone. As long as you only turn on one AC it's fine. But, you may want to get an estimate for each type and decide what you want to do

If you want just 30 amp ask for a TT 30R receptacle. Everyone here is offering good advise. I'm with GL1800rider 30 amp service is OK majority of time at home. I'm not an electrician but most homes have just 200 amp service. Putting in a 50 amp receptacle will consume 100 amps of the 200 available(not that you would actually use all 100 amps but you could). Most honest electricians will advise against it. Plus it will be cheaper to install.

200 amp service on the typical home is 200 amps per 120v leg. Likewise 50 amp service is 50 amps per 120 v leg, not 100 amps as you state.

OP here. Thanks all. We will go with the 30 amp for now. The electrical panel is on the garage right where the plug will go so it should be easy. We won't be upgrading to an RV with 50 amp at this house (unless the Powerball tickets come through tonight - of course, there would then be a house change too!!!)

You will rarely need 50 amps at your home unless someone is camping and needs 2 ac's running or running 2 major appliances at one time, even if you have a 50 amp Rv.Either way the cost for 50 amp is not that much more expensive.

A friend and I put in a 50 amp box at the house. Did it just below the breaker panel in the garage. It was super easy and makes cooling down the trailer quicker in the middle of the summer by running both a/c's.

50 amp at our home as well. Nice to be able to cool the entire coach down before a trip in the summer

I just installed a 30 amp plug on the side of my garage. Took about 40 minutes for complete job. Bought the tt30 plug and box from amazon but also noticed Lowes had a bunch of them. Was going to post pic but don't know how

Very nice, what was harder? Installing the outlet or figuring out how to post the attachment?

Lol adding the pic. Really anyone with basic home improvement ability can complete this in under an hour. And after doing it I can't understand how a licensed electrician would wire this as 220. It must say 120 at least 4 places on the box . But now I'm ready for my new 2801 which should be done in a week or two.

Be sure that the electrician knows it is for 30 amp RV service, not household service. The receptacles are different.
