AM is a toss up. but you can greatly improve the FM by connecting the radio antennae to the TV antennae using a splitter. Good Luck

Mine stinks too. Tried of listening to PBS in the mountains. Thought I'd try putting a small antenna on the roof next to the satellite connection and using it to get inside. Then coax to adapter for the radio plug. Haven't found a stubby antenna for the roof yet or looked into rremoving radio to run new antenna wire just on the list of mods for the winter

Sadly, almost no thought is given to a good "front end" tuning section in current auto radios. Your best bet will be a decent quality portable. Google "Best AM Radios" Looks like the Sony ICF 38 is well-reviewed.

You might also find a good older portable at a flea market or ebay. I have a Panasonic 1970's era portable that has fantastic AM and FM. It cost about sixty bucks back then, and they used quality components.
